Mel Feller Looks at the Entrepreneur Quiz
Mel Feller asks the question, “Do you have what it takes to succeed in a Business?”
This quiz will help you assess your management skills
The first question you should answer when you are thinking of starting a business is "Am I the type?" You will be the most important employee in your business. It is more important that you rate yourself objectively as the business manager than how you rate any prospective employee. Appraise your strengths and your weaknesses. As a prospective operator of your own small business, acknowledge that you are weak in certain areas and cover the deficiency by either retraining yourself or hiring someone with the necessary skill. The questions in this test indicate to what extent you have the personal traits important to a business startup.

themselvesthroughventuring.Ihave oftenwonderedwhatdifferentiatessuccessfulentrepreneurs
fromtheirpeers. However, bywonderingIhave alsobeenable towrite those thoughtsdown.
Are there certainqualitiestheyshare?Iknow so.
However,Ialsothinkitis importanttoacknowledge thattiming,luckandsimplybeinginthe rightplace
at the righttime playa part inmany successstories. Thatis due to participationandbeingreadyfor
those opportunities.
Decadesof personal experience andmentoringhave taughtme thatsuccessful entrepreneursshare
these five qualities:
An unwaveringpassion.
The advice to do whatyou love hasbecome abit of a cliché.Everyone says,“Findyourpassion.”
However,thatiseasiersaid thandone.Beinganentrepreneurdemandscommitmentanddedication –
more than mostjobsdo, I wouldargue thatpointstrongly.
If you are ambivalentormildlyenthusedaboutyourproductorservice, thatisnot goingto sustainyou
throughthe highsand lows that, inevitably occurineverybusy. If youfindsomethingyoulove enough
to wantto share itwithothers, thatlove will fuel andgive youpurpose.
Open-mindedness.
The most successful entrepreneursIknow neverforgethow muchtheycanlearnfromothers.Theyask
for advice. Theyare flexible.Theysoakupthe bestpracticesaroundthemlike asponge.Fearof failure
can make it easyto griponto yourvisionwithanironfist, butrigidity will notserve you.
The desire to be an expert.
4. Entrepreneurs alwaysloveachallenge.If they didnot,theywould probablyhave chosenanotherlineof
work. Nevertheless, asexcitingasitis to considernew field,high-achievingentrepreneurs know the
benefitsof stayinginthe same industryforawhile are immense.
Whenyouspendyearsin the same industry, youlearnitshistory.Knowing whathasbeendone before
can helpyouidentifyhowitcanand shouldmove forward.Inthe meantime, youwill buildanetworkof
relationshipstosupportyouinfuture endeavors,especiallywhentimesare lean.
Those relationshipsare invaluable.
A forward-lookingapproach.
Successful entrepreneursare alwaysthinkingahead.Theymaystrayfromtheirroadmap,and that is
okay, but theyhave one inmind.Havinga clearlyestablishedsetof goalswillkeepyoufrom beingstuck.
Your goalsmay be constantlyevolving, butif you donot know where youwantto go,chances are,you
will notgetanywhere.
A constant flowof ideas.
Havingone project that isdoingwell isgreat. However, the successful entrepreneursIknow donot rest
on theirlaurels.Instead, theyare constantlyaskingthemselves,“What’snext?”Theyunderstandthat
beinga successful entrepreneurisa lifestylechoice,notadestination.
Embrace these qualitiesand you will become a betterentrepreneur.
