India has a long history of medical tourism dating back thousands of years. In ancient times, kings and other wealthy individuals traveled to India for specialized medical treatments by skilled practitioners like Sushruta. Today, India continues to attract medical tourists from around the world due to its combination of low costs, advanced treatments, and holistic medical approaches like Ayurveda. However, growth in India's medical tourism industry has been limited by a lack of accreditation and perceived advanced technology in many Indian hospitals. To further develop the sector, India must improve quality standards and change foreign perceptions that it remains an undeveloped nation for healthcare.
