SUMMARY: The Paralegal will have responsibility to assist attorneys in general with Medicaid
planning as well as filing and processing Medicaid applications
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Learn Medicaid rules and process
2. Be involved in developing a highly efficient system for intake, filing, and processing of
Medicaid applications
3. Could be involved in business development of the Medicaid practice area if so desired
4. Correspond with clients during the intake process to obtain the necessary information and
documents for the responsible attorney to do the Medicaid planning and/or file a Medicaid
application
5. Be part of client conferences to understand what Medicaid planning is done for a client
6. Meet with the responsible attorney to develop a task list to implement the Medicaid plan
7. Talk directly with the clients’ advisors/staff to obtain documentation on their accounts and
other verification for the Medicaid application
8. Talk directly with the clients’ advisers/staff to transfer ownership of various accounts
consistent with the task list
9. Work directly with case workers for the Department of Human Services on processing
requests for information
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Very passionate and strives for excellence
2. Experience in a law firm is helpful, but not required
3. Desires to be involved in developing a system for filing and processing Medicaid
applications
4. Extremely organized and has the ability to manage a significant amount of documents and
significant number of client matter matters at one time
5. Obsessively focused on detail and deadlines
6. Constantly looking for ways to improve the processes that are in place
7. Highly personably and enjoys working directly with clients and other professionals (i.e.
financial advisers, insurance agents, etc.) and their staff
8. Very motivated and desires to learn a complicated area of the law
9. High level of competence using technology (such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat), an
understanding of Microsoft Excel, and is eager to learn more about technology
