9 key frame analysis

Media presentation horror
- 23. The title sequence of ‘Child’s play 3’ starts off with a few panning shots of the heads and different parts of the dolls body in the factory being made. The humans faces are cropped out from the shot to make the audience feel uneasy. The non-diegetic music is exaggerated and contrapuntally used to make the audience slightly confused and ready for the unexpected. The blood that comes from the doll connotes to the reader that bad things may happen or come soon. The camera then zooms and spins around with the blood which causes confusion and then cream titles appear as the doll is being made. The title sequence of ‘American Horror Story’ starts off with non-diegetic sound which is empathetically played and synchronised with the image as it cuts to the next clips. The image clips cut suddenly which makes the audience feel on edge and unknowing what yet they are to expect in the title sequence. Some of the images that are displayed are over exposed which creates fear and scares the viewer as they don’t know what they are seeing and it creates a lot of confusion and puts them on edge. The titles then display after a few cuts of the images in a white font against a black background which again creates confusion as the colour white connotes purity and black connotes the complete opposite making the viewer confused what to think.
- 24. The title sequence of ‘The Shining’ starts off with an aerial shot in a deep valley sweeping through the landscape of the valley. We then start to get a zooming shot of a yellow car at multiple angles travelling through the valley with non-diegetic music which a low pitched, pleonastic sound which infers to the viewer that the car is going to its doom and will be heading towards danger. The birds eye view of the car travelling makes It look small against the background which shows how inferior the people in the car must be. The rolling credits appear in a hot blue colour which does not fit very well into the background making the viewer uncomfortable. The use of rolling credits which are usually displayed at the end of the film infer to viewer also that maybe the end is near for the people in car also, around the corner of the valley.
