Academic Projects
Senior Design Project Technical Manager with Blount International Inc.
• Designed a $10,000 string trimmer testing chamber to simulate grass cutting conditions while recording RPM, temp, voltage, current
and varying the throttle and load applied to the trimmer. Managed technical work load of four team members.
Clean Cook Stove Project with Aprovecho Research Center
• Designed tests for efficiency, emissions, and temperature on a portable rocket stove using DAQ, IR camera, thermocouples.
Maze Navigation Robot Competition
• Assembled/ programmed a microcontroller to navigate a robot through a maze of unknown layout. Placed 2nd of 24 teams.
Oscillating Air Engine Competition
• Designed, modeled, drafted, machined to .002”, under budget, 2 weeks before due. Placed 2nd of 37 in “fastest engine.”
Experience
Climax Portable Machining & Welding Systems…………………………………………..…................................................June. 2014 – Jan. 2016
Project Design Engineer I - (Oct. 2015 – Jan. 2016)
• Designed ~$100,000 custom machine consisting of ~500 components with extremely tight schedule & ambiguous design parameters.
• Planned/ executed production BOM’s, design reviews, DFMEAs, tolerance analysis, functional tests, and user manual design.
• Assured and planned required tests for CE, ISO, and ASME B.31 saving more than $2,000.
• Researched component failures for senior engineers and proposed solutions documented in formal reports.
• Continuously supported and guided others to solutions concerning part manufacturing.
• Designed machined parts, hydraulics, welded frames, sheet metal components, tubing runs, laser cut, and water jet parts.
• Assisted with design of ~$40,000 custom machine consisting of ~50 components from concept through production and testing.
• Reviewed for accuracy and created technical drawings including GD&T, tolerance analysis, parts lists, and engineering specifications.
• Offered assistant when schedule permitted. Took on challenging modeling projects. Freed engineer’s schedules and saved hundreds.
• Improved team moral. Alieved stressful team project with lots of late nights by bringing in doughnuts for the team as the “new guy.”
Machine Designer I – (May 2015 – Oct. 2015)
• Learned ~90% of Autodesk Inventor 3D parametric modeling/ analysis & 2D drafting software in ~2 weeks.
• Supported cross-functional teams with part and drawing revisions, with rapid turn-around time so manufacturing was not held up.
• Managed multiple projects at the same time ensuring all tasks were done before deadlines while completing introductory training.
• Actively learned and asked questions of everyone in the department – met everyone and finished training several weeks early.
Engineering Intern – (June 2014 – Aug. 2014)
• Finished assigned tasks ahead of schedule. Sought out more work in supporting engineering and saved ~$5,000 engineering hours.
George Fox University Engineering Department …………………….………………………………………………………Sept. 2011 – Apr. 2012
Technician Assistant – (Sep. 2011 – Apr. 2012)
• Designed/ machined display air engine. ~20 parts (acrylic, brass, aluminum, fasteners, bearings, springs, pneumatic fittings.)
• Managed 6 shop machines: taught machine use on manual mills, lathes, band-saws, and drill presses. Responsible for student safety.
