Measurement involves quantifying attributes of materials and phenomena in the world. It provides benefits to society by allowing quantification and comparison, but also poses challenges in determining what and how to measure. Different systems of measurement exist, including metric and imperial, and tools are used to take measurements. Measurements can be converted between units both within and across systems through mathematical calculations. Measurement is connected to materials science through quantifying materials' properties and dimensions.
