The Gold Award
What it is:
The Gold Award is the highest honor that a Girl Scout can earn. The award can be earned by
following the seven-steps for creating a project for the benefit of the community. The award
program is meant to help inspire others & the Girl Scouts themselves.
Who can do it:
The Gold Award is open only to girls in high school. This prestigious award challenges the girls
to change the world – or at least their corner of it.
Why earn the Gold Award:
After completing the project, the girls become eligible for college scholarships.
The SevenSteps:
1.Identify an issue. Using values and skills, the girls must choose a community issue that they
care about.
2. Investigate it thoroughly. Using their sleuthing skills, they must learn everything about the
issue they have chosen.
3. Get help & build your team. The girls must forma team to support their efforts and help them
take action.
4. Create a plan. The girls must identify the causes of the issue and then create a plan to tackle it.
5. Present your plan & gather feedback. The girls must submit a Project Proposal Form to their
Girl Scout Council for approval.
6. Take action. Once the plan is approved, the girls must lead their team and carry out the plan.
7. Educate and inspire. After they have completed the action, the girls must tell their story and
share their results with their troops and the rest of the community.
