Mayor Mouse Jr. gets separated from his family and ends up lost at sea. He is rescued by Joshua Davidson, the first mate of a lifeboat. Joshua takes Mayor Mouse Jr. under his wing and lets him stay with him. Mayor Mouse Jr. is sad about losing his family but Joshua encourages him and helps him realize he still has a purpose and a reason to keep going.

Lea the limestone and Hanna the hornblende are washed down a stream together as they are eroded from their original rocks. They go over waterfalls and through valleys and meanders, growing smaller along the way. When briefly separated, they each have dangerous encounters but eventually reunite at the beach, where they have now been eroded down to grains of sand.
