To Whom It May Concern:
It is my pleasure to furnish this letter of recommendation for Bruce Smith. I have had the
privilege of knowing and working with Mr. Smith on several projects over the past year
since I became Mayor of the City of Madison.
Some of these projects included a successful opt-out public vote to help school funding
for the Madison School District, a series of major public events celebrating the 125th
anniversary of Dakota State University, the Capital For A Day program in Madison
where the City hosted South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds and his staff for a day-long
event, and Madison Hosts The Legislature, a function held in Pierre during the State
Legislative session.
In addition, I feel that Mr. Smith has done excellent work for Dakota State University to
enhance the image and stature of DSU. It is through efforts such as his that DSU ranks
among the top small universities in higher education in the region and nation.
I consider Mr. Smith to be a person of highest integrity and professional standards. His
friendly manner and personality serve him well in working with all types of groups. He
is an excellent writer as I have read several of his articles and editorials in our local
publications. I have enjoyed working with him.
Please feel free to contact me at home (605-427-9777) or at my office (605-256-7500) if
you desire. You may leave a message if I am not available and I will return your call at
the earliest possible time.
Sincerely,
Mayor Gene Hexom
City of Madison, South Dakota
