Solids maintain a fixed shape and do not change positions, like desks and chairs in a classroom. Liquids flow and move easily between places without a definite shape of their own. Gases have no definite shape or volume, are invisible like air, and are essential for breathing and other functions.

Physical changes alter the shape or form of a substance but not its chemical composition. Chemical changes alter the molecular structure of a substance and create new substances. States of matter include solids, liquids, gases, and plasmas, which substances can transition between when temperature or other conditions change. A Bose-Einstein condensate is a state of matter that occurs when atoms are cooled to near absolute zero and behave as a single superatom.
Effects of environmental changes
Factories emit sulfur dioxide into the air which forms acid rain when combined with moisture, harming both humans and animals. They also dump garbage and waste into bodies of water. Cutting down trees can cause soil erosion and floods. To help the environment, we should consider the harmful effects of industry, pollution, and deforestation.
Changes in Matter
Physical changes alter the state or form of a substance without changing its chemical identity, and are reversible. Chemical changes transform one or more substances into new substances with different properties, are indicated by color changes, formation of precipitates or gas bubbles, production of heat or light, and are not easily reversible. Physical and chemical changes can be distinguished by whether the identity of the substance is conserved and if the change is reversible.
