ITALIAN DESIGN selected by Venice Design Week
How can design REvive tradition? Traditional production systems and innovative design
This year in Berlin, DESIGN WEEK network presents an exhibition that brings together products of fashion, interior, industrial design with the aim to inform the German public about the Italian creativity and quality. Scope of this exhibition is to create a business network among designers, enterprises, retailers and the German public. The exhibited works have been selected for the high quality of working processes to show the relationship between innovation and tradition. The exhibition points out the talent and creative potential of small Italian creators, enterprises, artisans and designers coming from industrial, fashion and product design. In Italy there are many high quality and innovative creative design companies, dispersed throughout the country; when it comes to micro enterprises, artisans and designers with difficulty manage to enter the international market. In order to facilitate their integration, DESIGN WEEK network has started a network of relationships within the international design weeks, featuring events aimed at enhancing “Good Design” , performing exhibitions in design centers and other strategic meeting points, located in high-frequency and shopping areas.

1. Introduction – Inside Fendi
The House of Fendi was founded by Edoardo and Adele Fendi in 1925 with the establishment of the first handbag shop and fur workshop in Via del Plebiscito, Rome (Fendi, 2015). By producing some of the world’s most craved luxury products and iconic bags under its brand name, the company gained great commendation for the quality of its products and the skillful workmanship of the furs among the Italian elite with around 200 boutiques in more than 35 countries around the world (Rosee, 2013).
Fendi’s success is its tradition and continuous research in adhering to exquisite artistry and embrace social media without compromising on its exclusivity as well as Fendi is uniquely about its quality assurance, creativity, craftsmanship, innovation and style (Fendi, 2015).
2. Value Chain
2.1. Operation
Fendi is synonymous with its technical expertise and artisanal approach such as the handcrafted production of its fur and Baguette Bag, which is a new era of It Bags for Fendi (Jones, 2013). Fendi has a multi-step process of quality assurance such as monitoring their integral standard operating procedures (Aliyah, 2014). Furthermore, Fendi’s strategy in keeping its plants in Rome, Italy was crucial in maintaining the source of inspiration of the products based on tradition and experimentation which have been core values for Fendi (Bloomberg, 2015). This creates the value in terms of custom made products with new techniques and guarantee of long-lasting for consumers.

Art Direction & Graphic Design for Hurley EMEA
Since its creation, Hurley has always been an iconic surfing
brand. Being a Graphic Designer for the EMEA office, my role
was to organize and create all the content planned with the
Sales & Marketing team. From newsletters to physical
campaigns, most assets were created in-house and had to
follow Hurley’s brand guidelines.

Weekly Digital asset design
Three examples of seasons & campaign design
Every week, the Marketing & Sales team would brief me about the next sales
move, from there I will get a deadline to develop all the necessary assets
to complete this campaign. Essentially focused on Hurley’s E-commerce, my
role was to supervise that the website and digital campaigns were aligned
and had to create all the assets to complete them. Each asset was then
adapted in 4 languages: Spanish, French, English & German.
After receiving the brief I would then create assets for Social Media
(Facebook & Instagram), two newsletters (via Klaviyo), an update for
the homepage and E-commerce via Magento, banners and vinyls for
shops and on a monthly base an ads’ for surf & lifestyle magazines.

Poster Pillar is a response to the daily poster and pointless
designs for social media. Most of the posters were made in the
span of 10 days. More than 150 posters were pasted on pillars,
simulating the older poster pillars. The content has little meaning
but is reflecting events we wanted to see in real life.
Later on, a zine was produced showcasing our favorite posters,
making it more accessible for the people to see the evolution of
the pillars.
