Material changes
1. Unit : 7 “ Material changes”
Done by T: Mona Youssef
2. Objectives : By the end of this lesson , you
will
Identify common items as acid, base or neutral.
Read a pH strip and identify as acid, base or neutral.
Give characteristics of acids, bases and neutral substances.
Understand what pH and pOH are measuring.
Perform pH and pOH calculations.
Understand what buffers are and why they are biologically important.
Prepare your own PH Indicator.
3. What is PH?
pH is a measure of hydrogen ion concentration, a
measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution.
What is pH full form?
PH stands for Potential of Hydrogen. It refers to the
hydrogen ion concentration in a solution. It is the
measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution.
The PH value ranges from 0 to 14 on a pH scale.
PH measures how many ions of hydrogen, check the
previous
4. Why PH is important for us?
pH is important because substances such as our stomach
acids tend to be at a certain pH in order to work
properly. pH is also important because it must be at certain
levels in order for living organisms to survive. Create a
large pH scale (two or three meters long).
PH is found in the food and in our body.
5. pH indicator
A pH indicator is a halochromic chemical compound added
in small amounts to a solution so the pH of the solution can
be determined visually. Hence, a pH indicator is a chemical
detector for hydronium ions or hydrogen ions in the
Arrhenius model.
Types of Indicators

Task 1
Capture a video while you are doing the same red cabbage indicator
Experiment :
Purpose : prepare red cabbage indicator.
Materials : red cabbage, water, cup.
Steps : check the video.

Editor's Notes
In order to know what is the hydrogen ion, you need to know what does the atom consist of. You can check it in the other presentation
