This document summarizes a thesis that examines how goal passion influences the formation of social networks. It hypothesizes that individuals with high obsessive passion (but not harmonious passion) toward a goal will prefer connecting with others who share their goal and avoid those with conflicting goals, leading to more uniform social networks. Two studies partially supported this. The first found people were attracted to others with their focal goal, predicted by obsessive passion levels. The second found goal system similarity predicted attraction when controlling for other factors. The findings suggest motivational tendencies influence social connections, though the social environment also impacts the mechanisms driving interpersonal attraction.
