This document discusses creating a robust intellectual property (IP) marketplace in developing countries through a design thinking approach. It reviews literature finding that value from IP rights comes from productive collaboration between stakeholders and avoiding conflicts of interest. The document analyzes IP markets in Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Egypt and uses Singapore as a case study of a successful transition from a small fishing village to a major innovator through robust IP protections. The goal is to identify pillars for developing countries to build their own IP marketplaces and participate fully in the global innovation economy.
