SUNY Fredonia public relations seniors have selected Chautauqua Rails to Trails and Greystone Nature Preserve as the two organizations they will support through developing PR strategies and materials. The Community Partners Program aims to provide benefits to local non-profits while giving students hands-on experience. Chautauqua Rails to Trails maintains over 30 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking, and more. Greystone Nature Preserve works to educate the community on nature and preserves 71 acres of land, offering trails and views of Lake Erie. Students will develop comprehensive PR plans and pitch their proposals to the organizations to aid future implementation.

The survey measured responses on a Likert scale regarding how SFBT impacts student-teacher relationships, social competence, and classroom behaviors. Results found high mean scores across components, though statistical significance was limited by the small sample size. While not definitive, results somewhat supported the hypothesis that educators perceive SFBT as effective. 1) A regional training class for Master Gardener volunteers was offered in Southeastern Washington and Northern Idaho, encompassing a 60-mile radius around the Lewis-Clark Valley. The 2008 training had 65 participants from 6 counties over 60 training hours from January to April.
2) A post-training survey found that 100% of participants said their horticultural knowledge and ability to serve as Master Gardeners increased, as did understanding of pest life cycles, ability to choose local plants, and ability to diagnose pests and diseases.
3) By combining resources across counties, the regional training approach provided a high-quality program to meet local needs and establish new Master Gardener programs.

A Regional Approach To Master Gardener Volunteer Training In Southeastern Was...
1) A regional training class for Master Gardener volunteers was offered in Southeastern Washington and Northern Idaho, encompassing a 60-mile radius around the Lewis-Clark Valley. The 2008 training had 65 participants from 6 counties over 60 training hours from January to April.
2) A post-training survey found that 100% of participants said their horticultural knowledge and ability to serve as Master Gardeners increased, as did understanding of pest life cycles, ability to choose local plants, and ability to diagnose pests and diseases.
3) By combining resources across counties, the regional training approach provided a high-quality program to meet local needs and establish new Master Gardener programs.

Coursework plus volunteer time qualify the trainee for certification as a West Virginia Master Naturalist. Who can participate? Anyone over 16 years of age, with an interest in natu- ral history, is welcome to take part. DISCOVER. LEARN. SHARE.How can I be certified as a Master Naturalist? T o be certified you must complete 64 hours of classroom and field training (48 hours of core classes and 16 hours of electives). You must also complete 30 hours of volunteer work. To maintain certification, eight hours of training and 16 hours of volunteer time are required each year. What activities can a Master Naturalist do? M aster naturalists help construct and maintain nature trails, lead interpre- tive walks at state parks, assist biologists with research, and give presentations to school children and other groups. They will learn the best ways to enhance wildlife habitat and most importantly, how to ap- ply this knowledge and share with others. How Can I Receive Training? M aster Naturalist classes are host- ed by local Master Naturalist chapters that have been formed around the state.
