2. The five brothers were children of Samuel and Minnie Marx, who had had in 1886
their first child, Manfred, who died with seven months after the flu. The core of the
group were the three older brothers, Chico, Harpo and Groucho; each one played
a type of character.

enormous success in the cinema.

youngest brothers, Gummo and Zeppo, did
not develop their characters in the same way
and eventually abandoned the performance
to perform other trades. Gummo did not
participate in any of the films, and Zeppo only
appeared in the first six. The five brothers
