2. In many regions in Greece keep a
custom. We used to wear a
wristband Marti as it is called in
Rhodes or Martitsi as it is called in
Ioannina. Mothers make it in the last
day of February and tie it in the wrist
of their children. It is believed that it
would protect them from the
sunburn in March.
Σε πολλές περιοχές της
Ελλάδας φοράμε ένα
βραχιολάκι, τον Μάρτη
όπως λέγεται στη Ρόδο
ή Μαρτίτσι (όπως
λέγεται στα Γιάννενα),
την τελευταία μέρα του
Φεβρουαρίου. Γιατί
πιστεύεται ,ότι θα μας
προφυλάξει από τις
ακτίνες του ήλιου τον
Μάρτη .

3. Χρειαζόμαστε δυό κλωστές
για να φτιάξουμε τον Μάρτη.
Μία κόκκινη και μια άσπρη.
Στη Ρόδο βάζουν και μία
χρυσή (όπως είναι χρυσές οι
ακτίνες του ήλιου).
We need two threads to make it.
A red and a white. In Rhodes put a gold one
also (like golden rays of the sun).

4. Κάνουμε κόμπο στις
άκρες και την
στριφογυρίζουμε.
Τέλος την δένουμε γύρω
από το χεράκι μας .Την
φοράμε σαν βραχιόλι
και την κρατάμε μέχρι
το τέλος του Μάρτη.
We make a knot at the end of each thread
and twirled them .
Finally we tie it around our wrist. We used to
wear like a bracelet and hold it on our wrist
until the end of March.

5. Όταν τελειώσει ο μήνας
στα Γιάννενα συνηθίζουμε
να την κρεμάμε πάνω στα
κλαδιά μιας
τριανταφυλλιάς για να την
βρούνε τα πουλιά και να
κάνουνε φωλιά.
Στη Ρόδο καίνε τον
«Μάρτη» την Ανάσταση.
At the end of March in Ioannina used to
hang Martitsi on the twigs of a rosewood so
that can be found by the birds and make
their nest.
In Rhodes burn the 'March' in Easter Sunday.
