Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1929 who led the American civil rights movement from the 1950s until his assassination in 1968. He was a prominent leader in the 1955 civil rights movement in Montgomery, Alabama and lived in Atlanta where he worked as a Baptist minister until his death at age 39.
