others. For this reason they receive a special grace in the
sacrament which Jesus Christ instituted. Those who are
called to the married state will, with the grace of God, find
within their state everything they need to be holy.

INTRODUCTORY RITES
COMMENTATOR: Good day brothers and sisters. Today, we are
gathered as a community to participate in the Holy Eucharist
and to witness with joy the union of John & Janice in the love
of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Sacrament of Matrimony.
Let us offer our prayers for them that God may shower upon
them his divine graces as they begin their new life together. We
now welcome the wedding entourage. We all stand.
♫ Processional Song ♫
The marriage rite fittingly begins with solemn procession to the altar then takes place in the
customary manner: the ministers go first, followed by the priest who leads the bridal
entourage and her attendants to the sanctuary. According to local custom, they may be
escorted by at least their parents and two witnesses. In the sanctuary they take their respective
places. ALL APPEARANCE OF THEATRICAL SHOW MUST BE AVOIDED. After the
entrance song, the priest and the congregation remain standing and make the sign of the cross
as the priests begin the mass.
PRIEST: In the name † of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit.
ALL: Amen.
Then the priest, facing the people extends his hands and greets all present with this or similar words:
PRIEST: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
ALL: And with your spirit.
Then, in this or similar words, the Priest addresses the couple and those present to dispose
them inwardly for the celebration of Marriage:
PRIEST: We have come rejoicing into the house of the Lord for
this celebration, dear brothers and sisters, and now we stand
with John & Janice on the day they intend to form a home of
their own. For them, this is a moment of unique importance. So
let us support them with our affection, with our friendship, and
with our prayer as their brothers and sisters. Let us listen
attentively with them to the word that God speaks to us today.
Then, with the holy Church, let us humbly pray to God the
Father, through Christ our Lord, for this couple, his servants,
that he lovingly accepts them, bless them, and make them
always one.
Penitential Rite
PRIEST: Brothers and Sisters coming together as God’s family
let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to
celebrate the sacred mysteries.
All observe a brief silence.
ALL: I confess to Almighty God and to you my brothers and
sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my
words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, And
striking their breast they say: through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault; then they continue: Therefore, I
ask blessed Mary Ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and
you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our
God.
The absolution by the Priest follows:

your servants John & Janice so that in the union of Marriage

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns
with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and
ever.

FIRST READING: Jeremiah 31:31-32, 33-34
LECTOR: A reading from the Book of Prophet Jeremiah.
The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new
covenant in the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It will
not be like the covenant I made with their fathers the day I took
them by the hand to lead them forth from the land of Egypt.
But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of
Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will place the law within
them, and write upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they

COMMENTATOR: We all stand. May we request the godparent

Renewal of Baptismal Vows
PRIEST: Do you renounce Satan and all his works and all his
empty show?
CANDIDATE: I do.
PRIEST: Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of
Heaven and Earth?
CANDIDATE: I do.
PRIEST: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered death was buried,
rose from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father?
CANDIDATE: I do.
PRIEST: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of
life, who came upon the apostles at Pentecost and today is
given to you sacramentally in Confirmation?

Laying on of Hands
PRIEST: My dear friends, in Baptism, God our father gave the
new birth of eternal life to his chosen sons and daughters.
Let us pray to our father that he will pour out the Holy Spirit to
strengthen his sons and daughters with his gifts and anoint
them to be more like Christ, the Son of God.
All powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by water
and the Holy Spirit you freed your sons and daughters from sin
and gave them new life.
Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper and guide.
Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of
knowledge and reverence. Fill them with the spirit of wonder
and awe in your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Allocution
PRIEST: Dearly beloved, John & Janice you are here today to
seal your love with an eternal bond before God’s people, the
Church. I assure you of the prayers of our community that God
may pour his abundant blessings on your love and help you to
carry out your duties of the married state. And you, dear
brothers and sisters. May I ask you to help them with your
prayers and accept them as a new couple in our Christian
community.
Scrutiny
PRIEST: John & Janice, May I now ask you to answer truthfully
the following questions.

Matrimony, please join your right hands and express your
intentions before God and His Church.

husband according to the rite of our Holy Mother, the Church?

Janice: Yes, I do.

PRIEST: John & Janice, we shall now bless your arrhae and
rings. Our help is in the name of the Lord.

servants John & Janice, who wear them may ever live in
mutual love and in unbroken loyalty. Grant this through Christ
our Lord.

with sufficiency of material possessions which these arrhae
symbolize, so that they may use them to attain eternal life.

PRIEST: Saving God, you have revealed your life and your love
through the lives of our ancestors in the faith. From Abraham
and Sarah, Moses and David, to Mary and Joseph, to Peter and
Paul, you have spoken your word and called your people to
fuller life. We honor your presence in this Scripture, and we
pray that the words of this sacred book may become more
deeply the living word of God, forming our thoughts, desires
and actions. We ask your blessing on this Holy Bible + in the

PRIEST: My dear Brothers and sisters, it is my great honor to
present to you John & Janice as a newly married couple in our
community. Let us give them a warm round of applause.

Prayers of the Faithful
PRIEST: My brothers and sisters, let us now pray for the Church
and for our newly wedded couple, John & Janice, whose
marriage reflects Christ’s union with his Church. In every
petition we say:
LORD, MAKE US INSTRUMENTS OF YOUR LOVE
LECTOR: For the Holy Church spread over the world, for
bishops, all the clergy and those who work for the deepening
of our faith that the Lord may continually inspire them in their
ministry. We pray: (R)
LECTOR: For government leaders that they may be guided by
the Holy Spirit to respect religious freedom, to work for greater
social justice, to recognize the dignity of every human person
and to earnestly resolve the problems of poverty, hunger and

that the Lord keep their hearts united forever and may always

may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.

with a kindly countenance the oblations we offer for these your

Preface (Matrimony as a sign of Divine Love)
PRIEST: The Lord be with you.
PRIEST: Lift up your hearts.
ALL: We lift them up to the Lord.
PRIEST: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
ALL: It is right and just.
PRIEST: It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father,
Almighty and eternal God. For you willed that the human race,
created by the gift of your goodness, should be raised to such
high dignity that the union of the husband and wife you might
bestow a true image of your love.
For those you created out of charity you call to the law of
charity without ceasing and grant them a share in your eternal
charity.
And so, the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, as the abiding sign
of your own love, consecrates the love of man and woman,
through Christ our Lord.
Through him, with all the Angels and all the Saints, we sing
the hymn of your praise, as without end we acclaim:

Eucharistic Prayer II
PRIEST: You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness,
make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down
your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may
become for us the Body and † Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his
Passion, he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave
it to his disciples, saying:
“TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU; AND EAT OF IT, FOR
THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR
YOU.”
In similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and
Resurrection we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and the
Chalice of Salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
Humbly we pray that, partaking of the Body and Blood of
Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Francis
our Pope, and the order of bishops and all the clergy.
Be mindful also Lord, of John & Janice, whom you have
brought to their wedding day, so that by your grace they may
abide in mutual love and in peace.
Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep
in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your
mercy: welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy
on us all, we pray that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother
of God, with blessed Joseph, her Spouse, with the blessed
Apostles, and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout
the ages, we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life, and may
praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through him, and with him and in him, O God, almighty
Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is
yours, forever and ever.

PRIEST: At the Savior’s command and formed by divine
teaching we dare to say:

NUPTIAL BLESSING
PRIEST: Let us humbly invoke by our prayers, dear brothers and
sisters, God’s blessing upon John & Janice that in his
kindness he may favor with his help those on whom he has
bestowed the Sacrament of Matrimony.
Holy Father, maker of the whole world, who created man and
woman in your own image and will that their union be
crowned with your blessing, we humbly beseech you for these
your servants, who are joined today in the Sacrament of
Matrimony.
May your abundant blessing, Lord, come down upon this
couple, John & Janice and may the power of your Holy Spirit
set their hearts aflame from on high, so that, living out together
the gift of Matrimony, they may adorn their family with
children and enrich the Church.
In happiness may they praise you, O Lord, in sorrow may they
seek you out; may they have the joy of presence to assist them
in their toil, and know that you are near to comfort them in
their need; let them pray to you in the holy assembly and bear
witness to you in the world, and after a happy old age, together
with the circle of friends that surrounds them, may they come
to the kingdom of Heaven. Through Christ our Lord.

The Sign of Peace
PRIEST: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

these your servants and that the effects of the sacrifice we have

CONCLUDING RITES
Final Admonition
PRIEST: John & Janice now that you have received the Holy
Sacrament of Matrimony, I admonish you to remain faithful to
one another.
PRIEST: Janice, love your husband and be a good wife;
persevere in faith and love and holiness.
PRIEST: John, love your wife as Christ loves His people, his
church and live with her in the holy fear of the Lord.
The Solemn Blessing
PRIEST: The Lord be with you.
PRIEST: Bow your heads and pray for God’s blessing. May the
Lord Jesus Who graced the marriage at Cana by his presence
bless you and your loved ones.

PRIEST: May he, wo loved the Church to the end Unceasingly
pour his love into your hearts.

PRIEST: May the Lord grant that, bearing witness to faith in his
Resurrection you may await with joy the blessed hope to come.
