Military service can affect life-stage development in several ways:
- It can accelerate identity formation by promoting responsibility and commitment at an early age. However, it can also cause problems if service members are unable to integrate their civilian and military identities after leaving the military.
- Different eras of service seem to correlate with varying outcomes. For example, Vietnam veterans often struggle with mental health, while Gulf War I veterans have experienced relatively good employment and education levels.
- Factors like personal perceptions of service and continuity with pre-existing identities influence how military experience impacts former service members. Therapists can help veterans make meaningful narratives and establish new commitments to facilitate identity integration.

Now more than ever. This statement evokes feelings of movement, both forwards and upwards. I used the symbolism of stairs and steps throughout the conference program in order to evoke this inspiring forward and upward movement. The interlocking word forms are both visually intriguing and thought provoking in the sense that they invite the viewer to take a closer look at the way that letterform interacts in the same way Fulbright Conference goers take a close look at the interaction communities around the world.
