This document discusses the role of technology in flood risk management in Ireland. It outlines Ireland's national flood policy which takes a proactive, catchment-based approach including flood mapping and flood risk management plans. Technology is embedded in prevention through planning guidelines, protection via flood schemes, and preparedness through early warning systems and emergency response. The EU Floods Directive requires preliminary flood risk assessment, flood maps, and management plans. Ireland's CFRAM programme uses technology like LiDAR surveys, hydrological modelling tools, and 1D-2D hydraulic models to develop spatially-based flood data and risk analysis to enable more effective flood risk management.
