Mary Stuart was Queen of Scotland and France through her marriage to Francis II of France. After being widowed, she returned to Scotland in 1560 and married Henry Darnley, with whom she had a son James. However, Darnley was assassinated in 1567. Mary later married the Earl of Bothwell, which led to rebellion and her imprisonment at Loch Leven Castle. Her son James would later become King of Scotland and England.
