This is confirm that the above named was awarded a PhD in Chemistry from the National University
of Ireland, Galway in 2010. As part of her post-graduate training, Dr. Nash was a laboratory Teaching
Assistant to undergraduate Chemistry students.
A minimum of 120 hours laboratory teaching were undertaken by Maria per academic year over 4
years. This involved supervison in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate laboratory clases.
Additionally, she supervised 4 Masters students, 3 final year honours B.Sc. students and 3 UREKA
(Undergraduate Research Experience & Knowledge Award) project students. For the UREKA projects
this direct supervision was for 8 hours each day (5 days per week) over a 12 week period, for the
final year Chemistry students this entailed 4 hours direct supervision per week, over a 6 month
period and the Masters students were directly supervised for 5 hours per day, (5 days per week)
over a 6 month period.
Responsibilities included training in all aspects of the individual projects and the planning and
successful execution of the individual projects. The undergraduate and Masters' student research
projects required the production of an externally examined thesis which the supervisor directed.
