RE: Referee for Acta Biomaterialia
Dear Center Director,
This letter is to certify that Dr. Maria Esther Nash has served as a referee for the journal Acta
Biomaterialia. Acta Biomaterialia is a high quality international peer-reviewed biomaterials
journal that relies on referees to maintain its high standard for published manuscripts. Dr. Nash
has contributed her comments toward a publication regarding controlled release and surface
characterization.
The mission of Acta Biomaterialia is to focus on structure–property–function relationships in
biomaterials, to illuminate the materials science approach to the evaluation and development of
biomaterials. Acta Biomaterialia defines biomaterials broadly, to include not only materials used
directly in the medical field, but also biological materials relevant to understanding material
issues in health and disease. As a result of our tight focus on an underlying materials science
theme and our broadened focus on biological materials, Acta Biomaterialia is a unique
integration of papers that attracts researchers who may have traditionally identified themselves
with the materials science or biophysics communities, as well as those who consider themselves
primarily biomaterials scientists and engineers. This juxtaposition of reports emphasizes the
increasing ties between molecular biology and biomaterials science, both in terms of applying
quantitative methods and modelling to the understanding of biological phenomena, and in the
harvesting of biological advances for the creation of novel biomaterials specifically designed to
address a medical need.
The journal is committed to rapid peer-review and publication. Due to the high standards of the
journal, reviewer invitations are only sent to individuals who are internationally respected
scientists. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise, research experience, and knowledge
of the subject in the specific content area. The editorial board carefully selects the reviewer
based on the qualification described above and depending upon the content of the concerned
paper for review. The fact that Dr. Nash was chosen to review a submitted manuscript reflects
positively on her standing in the field of biomaterials. Review provided by Dr. Nash helped us
in reaching a decision regarding its acceptance.

With appreciation for Dr. Nash’s contribution to this journal, we offer this letter as certification
of her service as an expert referee. Dr. Nash’s being a peer-reviewer for Acta Biomaterialia
indicates her recognition as an internationally known researcher.
Sincerely,
William R. Wagner, Ph.D.
