Many of the narratives we have been reading reveal dehumanizing stereotypes based on race that have been used to justify cruel treatment toward human beings based on a socially constructed idea of race. In "Where Bias Begins: The Truth about Stereotypes," Anne Murphy Paul argues that stereotyping "others" is deeply rooted and resistant to change even in the face of challenging evidence. In fact, she asserts, "We all use stereotypes, all the time, without knowing it. We have met the enemy of equality, and the enemy is us" (found in the 6th edition of Rothenberg's of Race, Class, and Gender in the U.S ., in Part VII, #105). In your journal, write down examples of gender, race, or class bias you suspect you engage in unconsciously. Analyze your own reaction times in situations where you deal with someone who is different than you. Does being conscious of your own thought processes help or hurt your ability to challenge such stereotypes? Discuss your own attempts at "de-automization," as Paul puts it, to catch and change your thoughts. .

Informal Logical Fallacies
An integral portion of critical thinking is learning about informal logical fallacies that vitiate many
arguments and ideas that surround us. A logical fallacy is a mistake in reasoning that invalidates the
claims that someone else is making. Fallacious reasoning is false reasoning. It often mimics logical
argumentation in subtle ways. Certain varieties of fallacious reasoning are so prevalent that they have
been given names. Many of the informal logical fallacies have Latin names because many of them were
identified during the medieval period. Learning these names is merely the beginning of understanding
how to recognize them and combat them in your personal life. It takes hours of work and experience in
order to recognize these fallacies off the cuff. Hopefully, this lecture will give students initial insight into
some of these fallacies. There are many online resources for fallacies that students can go to for more
in-depth analysis, examples, and descriptions of some of the less common fallacies. Our discussion will
focus on those fallacies that are most common in the hope that this analysis will allow students to
understand the foundations of the most common forms of fallacious reasoning.
Scapegoating
In the Old Testament (Leviticus 16), the high priest of Israel would symbolically lay the sins of the whole
nation of Israel on the head of a goat and this goat would then be cast off into the wilderness. This goat
would carry the sins of the people of Israel off to a place far away from those who actually committed
the sins. Scapegoating is laying blame for a problem in society on the heads of a specific group of
people. The scapegoater blames everything on a specific group for no logical reason. This group often
has few connections to those problems. However, those who scapegoat care little for logical thinking in
relation to problems. Groups that have been scapegoated in the United States include minorities,
women, illegal immigrants, gay people, Christians, Muslims, political leaders, etc (insert group here). It is
easy to blame a group of people for the problems in a society. However, unless there are sound reasons
to believe that those problems are caused by that group, then one is merely scapegoating.

Introduction
During the final week of this course, many of the concepts we studied will be drawn together in our discussion of the psychology of personality. Often we believe that a high self-esteem is a good thing, but an inflated self-esteem often leads individuals to a feeling that they can discriminate against others or behave violently towards them. We will also discuss the need for individuals to attain self-actualization and the obstacles that may prevent it. The role of social patterns, attitudes, and obedience on the behavior of individuals will also be examined. Finally, we will discuss the documented effect of physical beauty on how one is judged.
Freud's Place in the Psychology of Personality
Sigmund Freud is perhaps the one person who is thought of first when talking about Psychoanalysis. While he did draw attention to the subconscious mind and its affect on our personalities, many of his specific ideas are considered invalid or have been contradicted by newer research.
Freud felt that our personalities arise from the constant conflict between our biological processes (desires) and the social restraints against them. Some of these include the concepts of identification, defense mechanisms, repression, regression, projection, rationalization and displacement. However, other psycholanalyists including Alfred Adler, Karen Horney and Carl Jung differed from Freud by placing more emphasis on the role of the conscious mind and de-emphasizing the role of aggression and sexual drives on personality. Others like Gordon Allport put forward the idea of personality traits. Allport felt personalities were more definable in behavior patterns.
From these simple beginnings, personality tests like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) were born. While there continues to be arguments that these have their imperfections in identifying true personality, they are still in use today!
The Dark Side of Self-Esteem
Humanist psychologists assess personality by evaluating a person's concept of "self." It is based on the assumption that the "self" is the primary part of our personality. While there are benefits to a positive self-image, there are hazards in "pride."
In a recent Psychological Review article, Roy Baumeister and his colleagues drew the following provocative conclusion: "The societal pursuit of high self-esteem for everyone may literally end up doing considerable harm."

Incorporating Personal Narratives of Whiteness Into Anti-Racist Practice

Abstract: Anti-racist pedagogy typically focuses
on helping learners identify and counter racist
ideas and actions they detect in themselves and
others. Sympathetically and skillfully, the leader
of this activity is charged with helping people
detect subtle racism as evident in racial micro
aggressions and aversive racism. This pedagogic
process is crucial and valuable, but risks avoiding
a powerful dynamic of how
educators can use their own
personal, autobiographical
experience to model how
they themselves struggle to
detect and immobilize (as
much as that is possible)
racist instincts in themselves.
If racism is understood as a
learned ideology, then it is
reasonable to expect that even
adult educators committed
to dismantling racism have
internalized aspects of this
ideology. Instead of trying to purge themselves
of these, conceal, or damp them down, an
alternative educational approach is to make these
racist inclinations public and to engage learners
in a consideration of how to recognize and
challenge these.

The coronavirus seeks only to replicate. We seek to halt that replication. Unlike the virus, humans make
choices. This pandemic will pass into history. But the way in which it passes will shape the world it leaves
behind. It is the first such pandemic for a century. And it comes to a world that — unlike in 1918, when
the Spanish flu hit — has been at peace and enjoys unprecedented wealth. We should be able to
manage it well. If we do not do so, this will be a turning point for the worse. Making the right decisions
requires that we understand the options and their moral implications. We now confront two
fundamental sets of choices: within our countries and across borders. In high-income countries, the
biggest choice is how aggressively to halt transmission of the virus. But we also need to decide who will
bear the costs of that choice and how. Some continue to argue that it is wrong to force the economy
into a depression to suppress transmission of the virus. This, they suggest, will cause unnecessary
disruption. If, instead, the virus is left to spread relatively freely, we can achieve “herd immunity”,
sustain the economy and still focus resources on the vulnerable. Yet it is not clear that the economy
would fare better under this relatively laissez faire “mitigation” policy than under one of determined
“suppression”. Long before government-imposed lockdowns, many people stopped travelling or going
to restaurants, cinemas or shops. Decisive action to suppress the virus and follow up with testing and
tracking of new infections could well end the inevitable economic slump even sooner than otherwise.
What seems quite certain is the global health system would fare much better under suppression than
mitigation. Under the latter, argues the Imperial College Covid-19 Response Team, the health systems of
the UK and US would be overwhelmed: large numbers of predominantly old people would be left to die
untreated. It was presumably to prevent this from happening across China that the government
suppressed the virus so fiercely in Hubei. Could a health calamity that is unacceptable in China be
acceptable in the UK or US? Yet the critics are also right: it will be impossible to close large parts of our
economies for very long. If suppression is to be tried, it must be successful quickly and resurgence of the
virus must be throttled. Meanwhile, central banks and governments must seek to keep as much of the
economy going as possible, preserve as much productive capacity intact as possible and ensure that the
people, above all the vulnerable, are generously protected in whatever way a country finds practical.
The solidarity between countries needs to be as strong as within them. The financial instability and
looming recession (probably depression) we see coming will inflict huge harm on emerging and

Introduction
During the final week of this course, many of the concepts we studied will be drawn together in our discussion of the psychology of personality. Often we believe that a high self-esteem is a good thing, but an inflated self-esteem often leads individuals to a feeling that they can discriminate against others or behave violently towards them. We will also discuss the need for individuals to attain self-actualization and the obstacles that may prevent it. The role of social patterns, attitudes, and obedience on the behavior of individuals will also be examined. Finally, we will discuss the documented effect of physical beauty on how one is judged.
Freud's Place in the Psychology of Personality
Sigmund Freud is perhaps the one person who is thought of first when talking about Psychoanalysis. While he did draw attention to the subconscious mind and its affect on our personalities, many of his specific ideas are considered invalid or have been contradicted by newer research.
Freud felt that our personalities arise from the constant conflict between our biological processes (desires) and the social restraints against them. Some of these include the concepts of identification, defense mechanisms, repression, regression, projection, rationalization and displacement. However, other psycholanalyists including Alfred Adler, Karen Horney and Carl Jung differed from Freud by placing more emphasis on the role of the conscious mind and de-emphasizing the role of aggression and sexual drives on personality. Others like Gordon Allport put forward the idea of personality traits. Allport felt personalities were more definable in behavior patterns.
From these simple beginnings, personality tests like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) were born. While there continues to be arguments that these have their imperfections in identifying true personality, they are still in use today!
The Dark Side of Self-Esteem
Humanist psychologists assess personality by evaluating a person's concept of "self." It is based on the assumption that the "self" is the primary part of our personality. While there are benefits to a positive self-image, there are hazards in "pride."
In a recent Psychological Review article, Roy Baumeister and his colleagues drew the following provocative conclusion: "The societal pursuit of high self-esteem for everyone may literally end up doing considerable harm."

Incorporating Personal Narratives of Whiteness Into Anti-Racist Practice

Abstract: Anti-racist pedagogy typically focuses
on helping learners identify and counter racist
ideas and actions they detect in themselves and
others. Sympathetically and skillfully, the leader
of this activity is charged with helping people
detect subtle racism as evident in racial micro
aggressions and aversive racism. This pedagogic
process is crucial and valuable, but risks avoiding
a powerful dynamic of how
educators can use their own
personal, autobiographical
experience to model how
they themselves struggle to
detect and immobilize (as
much as that is possible)
racist instincts in themselves.
If racism is understood as a
learned ideology, then it is
reasonable to expect that even
adult educators committed
to dismantling racism have
internalized aspects of this
ideology. Instead of trying to purge themselves
of these, conceal, or damp them down, an
alternative educational approach is to make these
racist inclinations public and to engage learners
in a consideration of how to recognize and
challenge these.

The coronavirus seeks only to replicate. We seek to halt that replication. Unlike the virus, humans make
choices. This pandemic will pass into history. But the way in which it passes will shape the world it leaves
behind. It is the first such pandemic for a century. And it comes to a world that — unlike in 1918, when
the Spanish flu hit — has been at peace and enjoys unprecedented wealth. We should be able to
manage it well. If we do not do so, this will be a turning point for the worse. Making the right decisions
requires that we understand the options and their moral implications. We now confront two
fundamental sets of choices: within our countries and across borders. In high-income countries, the
biggest choice is how aggressively to halt transmission of the virus. But we also need to decide who will
bear the costs of that choice and how. Some continue to argue that it is wrong to force the economy
into a depression to suppress transmission of the virus. This, they suggest, will cause unnecessary
disruption. If, instead, the virus is left to spread relatively freely, we can achieve “herd immunity”,
sustain the economy and still focus resources on the vulnerable. Yet it is not clear that the economy
would fare better under this relatively laissez faire “mitigation” policy than under one of determined
“suppression”. Long before government-imposed lockdowns, many people stopped travelling or going
to restaurants, cinemas or shops. Decisive action to suppress the virus and follow up with testing and
tracking of new infections could well end the inevitable economic slump even sooner than otherwise.
What seems quite certain is the global health system would fare much better under suppression than
mitigation. Under the latter, argues the Imperial College Covid-19 Response Team, the health systems of
the UK and US would be overwhelmed: large numbers of predominantly old people would be left to die
untreated. It was presumably to prevent this from happening across China that the government
suppressed the virus so fiercely in Hubei. Could a health calamity that is unacceptable in China be
acceptable in the UK or US? Yet the critics are also right: it will be impossible to close large parts of our
economies for very long. If suppression is to be tried, it must be successful quickly and resurgence of the
virus must be throttled. Meanwhile, central banks and governments must seek to keep as much of the
economy going as possible, preserve as much productive capacity intact as possible and ensure that the
people, above all the vulnerable, are generously protected in whatever way a country finds practical.
The solidarity between countries needs to be as strong as within them. The financial instability and
looming recession (probably depression) we see coming will inflict huge harm on emerging and

It could be very helpful in developing companies' growth from grass root level. As optimum money is invested the production of goods will be more and retailers will get the product on time. Also as money is invested in advancement of technology the cost of production can be low so the retailers could make some more profit and manufacturers can make the product much quicker. As private equity holders are more concerned about their money they are actively involved in business to maximise the value. The main mission of equity holders is to generate revenue on their investment which might lead to unethical activities as larger money is involved. Abstract
The authenticity of human resource
information has become an important factor that
affects the cost and efficiency of human resource
management. With the rapid development of
mobile devices and Internet technology, various
human resource risks caused by information
asymmetry constantly bring economic loss, and
even a fatal blow, to enterprises. Based on
Blockchain(BC), this paper aims to combine
traditional encryption technology with Internet-
distributed technology, to establish a human
resource information management model that
reduces the risk of authenticity of human resource
information. This model aims to solve the lack of
discrimination of the authenticity of human
resource information, and to provide authentic and
effective decision support information to the
human resource management of an organization.
The operation method, such as Bitcoin, is used to
certify the human resource documentations, as
well as to bind the information and the
documentation. Furthermore, human resource
information is recorded in an accounting book
based on BC technology; thus, modifying and
validating may be difficult in the entire net work.
Consensus mechanism, smart contract, accounting,
and payment functions of BC can provide the basic
support for human resource information
management. Moreover, decentralization of the
protection mechanism can be achieved to achieve
low cost and high efficiency of information transfer,

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. Many of the narratives we have been reading reveal dehumanizing stereotypes based on race that have been used to justify cruel treatment toward human beings based on a socially constructed idea of race. In "Where Bias Begins: The Truth about Stereotypes," Anne Murphy Paul argues that stereotyping "others" is deeply rooted and resistant to change even in the face of challenging evidence. In fact, she asserts, "We all use stereotypes, all the time, without knowing it. We have met the enemy of equality, and the enemy is us" (found in the 6th edition of Rothenberg's of Race, Class, and Gender in the U.S ., in Part VII, #105). In your journal, write down examples of gender, race, or class bias you suspect you engage in unconsciously. Analyze your own reaction times in situations where you deal with someone who is different than you. Does being conscious of your own thought processes help or hurt your ability to challenge such stereotypes? Discuss your own attempts at "de-automization," as Paul puts it, to catch and change your thoughts.
