What is your team’s true Color? Kaleidoscope of Opportunity.
With THE BRIGHT SPOT,Waterloo Ontario.
It seems counterintuitive when the going gets tough and pressure is on, to stop everything
and focus on line, color and texture. But sometimes, that is just what needs to happen,
especially when you want to create a new team atmosphere and possibly a visual to spotlight an
upcoming event or initiative.
The Bright Spot Exercise is really about listening and becoming aware of how the problems are
actually encourage you to build into greatness. To step into areas that you might not have if all
were comfortable. Forewarned is forearmed. You will stir up things that need a voice possibly
but in a playful, light and understanding atmosphere there will be awareness and the power to
move on.
A team needs to trust each other. This simple artistic exercise does this and evokes a sense of
wonder of possibility.
This could be more of an individual project or a team visioning session. Using the mandala as
the base, the 8 arts principles are offered and used to create an image representing a current
point in time or situation.
This is an artist lead activity involving the flow of conversation, guidance in the arts principles, a
significant story and the eventual creation of a personal or small team mandala that has
focused in on a particular workplace situation. Reflection and action plans follow after the
experience to see if new insight can be shed to evolve to a more desired state.
Proportionand Movement
Discussion/Sharing:
What is the proportion of light to dark, or big and small. Of the issue at hand?
How would we like the eye to travel around the room? We start to get a sense of what the
blank space wants, listening to that still small voice within to guide us. Abstract or realistic?
Loud or quiet?
We untangle the ideas and get free from feeling stuck, we also let go of ideas for another time
or place and keep the ones we want to bring forward. at this point many people might have
many ideas. that is ok.
Lines will be drawn on the canvas in pencil by each member of the team. They trace objects in
the room or objects that they have cut from cardboard. Each one builds on what the other has
done.
Rhythmand Variety
This week we analyze the lines and add color
Can we see a rhythm? Is there variety of shapes? Depending on the choices of the group this
can go a few ways. Paint is starting to be applied. They might want to drip and use layers with
sponges. some may want to do detail with brushes. Having each person go to the board and
add their piece one at the time gives group support and has participants feel like they are part
of a group expressing their valuable part.
Rhythm of the heart, tuning into the heart beat in silence as well and enjoying each persons
various contributions. When to be different, when to merge.
It will be clearer now what we are doing as the fear of adding color to the canvas will be
surmounted. This is still the background and yet we will see what is emerging
Balance and Emphasis
Here is where the rubber meets the road. We choose what areas to emphasis, what shapes to
pull out. We can add shadows and shaping. There are things to discern and decisions to be
made. With the paint some things can be added over and over lap. We can also take away and
blend in.
We review the whole process with the pictures taken over time and then work together on the
main part we are wanting to really shine as the focus. We make sure there is balance with other
parts. A time of silence is recommended, contemplation and tuning into an inner group
GPS/still small voice as we work. Feeling a line go from our head through our heart to our
hands.
The solution is already there, the answer is waiting to be revealed through all the voices.
Unity and Cooperation
Participants will review what they have co-created together . Final touches and fill ins. Perhaps
golden outlines or special effects. Work on actionable items and timeline of projects and
commitments.
