Random sample of 50 AOs; involved desk based work and
visits.
• Outcome
An understanding of an overall approach. But more questions!
What we found
Prevention
• Centre approval – a key aspect; ongoing appraisal essential.
• Centre relationships – what makes the centre tick?
• Qualification development – not always considered.
What we found
Conflicts of interest
• Investigation – independence essential.
• Business influences – need to be aware and make informed
decisions.
What we found
Investigation
• Focus of the investigation - may need expanding.
• Sanctions - may allow time for the investigation, but beware!
• Reflection on the outcome – any implications for processes /
procedures?
What next?
• Ongoing monitoring programme.
• Visits to centres – to get a better understanding of how policies /
procedures are enacted..
• Further data – we may need ongoing information.
• Guidance - we are considering what and how best to provide this.
