Malnutrition :
• According to WHO “Malnutrition refers to deficiencies or
excesses in nutrient intake, imbalance of essential nutrients or
impaired nutrient utilization.”
• The double burden of malnutrition consists of both
undernutrition and overweight and obesity, as well as diet-
related noncommunicable diseases.
• Wasting is defined as low weight-for-height. It often indicates
recent and severe weight loss, although it can also persist for a
long time.
Malnutrition Around the World
Malnutrition is a pressing global health issue affecting millions of people worldwide
• According to (WHO), approximately 149 million children under the age of five suffer
from stunting,45 million children experience wasting.
• Moreover approximately 22 million children in this age group are classified as
underweight.
• The World Obesity Federation reports that more than 650 million adults globally are
obese.

Overnutrition : Overnutrition, particularly in the form of obesity, also poses
significant health risks.
Obesity : condition characterized by excessive body fat accumulation. It can lead to various

(e.g., heart disease and stroke)
• Type 2 diabetes(Diabetes Mellitus auto immune)
• Musculoskeletal problems (osteoarthritis)
• Respiratory disorders (e.g., sleep apnea)
• Certain types of cancer
(e.g., breast, colon, and kidney cancer)

individuals at risk of deficiencies
