Europe Day
9th May
Robert Schuman was the
French foreign minister
between 1948 and 1952.
As a result of his
experiences in
Germany, he recognised
that only a lasting
reconciliation with
Germany could form the
basis for a united Europe.
On the 9th of May in
1950
Robert Shuman’s
statement was the first
step towards the birth
of the European Union.
Since then we
celebrate the Europe
Day on the 9th of
May. We have
programs and festivals
on this day, that
brings people of the
EU together.
9th of May is a
European
symbol, just as the
EU flag, the
collective currency
(euro) and the
European anthem
(the IX. symphony
of Beethoven)
Hungary joined the
European Union on the
1st of May in 2004.
Therefore we have two
important celebrations
in May.
We
celebrate
with folk
dancing…
festivals
and eating

It’s very important to us that our children
can learn a lot about other European
countries and cultures. The Comenius
program is a grate opportunity to do this.
We enjoyed the
following
Comenius
activity too, we
made some
posters about
Europe Day.
