The Make in India initiative was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2014 to encourage multinational and national companies to manufacture their products in India. The goal is to make India a global manufacturing hub and achieve net zero electronics imports by 2020 as demand for electronics and hardware is expected to rapidly rise to $400 billion by then. Between 2014-2015, the government received investment proposals worth $120 billion under the initiative. Make in India focuses on sectors like automobiles, aviation, construction, defense manufacturing, electrical machinery, and others with the goal of creating over 10 million new jobs and boosting India's GDP, trade and economic growth.
