This document provides an overview of music and dance traditions in Eastern Africa. It discusses string and horn instruments used in ancient times and controlled body movements in dancing. Modern music has been influenced by genres from the New World like jazz, salsa, and blues. Two traditional jazz bands from Tanzania are described: Juwata Jazz, the oldest band still performing, and NUTA Jazz Band. Traditional dances from Uganda like Bakisimba and Amaggunju are also summarized along with common instruments used in the region like the doumbek, oud, and qanun.

In 1965 Uganda and South Korea were at about the same point on the developing nation scale, yet today South Korea is a strong, industrial nation, while Uganda is poverty-stricken and poor. I am going find why and how Uganda is such a poor country, This presentation looks specifically at the education and the healthcare in Uganda.
2. Introduction
• Music from the eastern Sahel, made extensive use of
strings and horns in ancient times. Dancing involves
controlled body movements and footwork. They use of
string instruments with emphasis on foot work. Modern
Sub-Saharan African music been influence by music
from the New World ( Jazz, Salsa, Rhythm, and Blues).
Some food traditions that they use of food products like
peppers, groundnuts and maize. The music and dance is
very important to them.
4. Juwata Jazz
• JuwataJazz is the oldest
band and it is still alive.
Tanzania has virtually no
recording industry. On the
mainland the only
recording institution which
has operated consistently
over the last twenty-five
years.While some African
music is clearly
contemporary-popular
music and some is art-
music, still a great deal is
communal.
5. NUTA Jazz
• The jazz band was
founded in 1964, in the
oldest band currently
active in Tanzania. Their
original name is NUTA
Jazz Band. This band had
a lot of names, but they
have different information.
8. Bakisimba
• Baakisiimba is a traditional
folk dance. This is
developed in the place of
the king Buganda.

10. Conclusion
•I learned a lot about the Eastern African dance and
music. I hope I could make some of the dance moves of
Africa and play their music. I hope you learned about
East Africa and I think that this part of Africa is really
interesting. I learned differences between United States
and the East Africa and a little bit of Africa. But it was
really fun to learn about the dance and music of the
Eastern Africa.
