Tyra McKenzie was interviewed about her experience modeling at Clothes Show Live at the NEC Birmingham. She got involved in modeling after signing up at a modeling agency booth at the event the previous year. She was selected to walk in the large fashion show after going through casting with many other applicants. The show involves dancers and performances in addition to models walking the catwalk to showcase high street and high end fashion over the course of an hour. While still keeping her options open as a young person, Tyra sees a future for herself in modeling and feels being in the Clothes Show lineup has been a big stepping stone that has led to continued opportunities like walking in the show again next year and going to castings for other stores

TREND MAGAZINE • MAY 2015
We at TREND magazine spoke to Tyra McKenzie
about her time modelling on the cat walk of Clothes
Show Live at the NEC Birmingham.
TREND: So how did you get involved in modelling?
TYRA: I was there the year before on a day out with
a couple of friends before coming across the Select
modelling angency station where I signed up, and
was invited to aworkshop where I was taught the ba-
sics of catwalk modelling.
TREND: How did the Clothes Show Live gig come
about for you?
TYRA: My portfolio had been passed on, I then went
to the casting where I was picked out from a large
number of people. From there I was at rehearsals 3
times weekly because of how large the fashion show
is.
TREND: Okay, so please tell us for readers that have
never been to the Clothes Show Live before, what is
the actual show like? How long does it last? What
does it involve?
TYRA: The actual show lasts about an hour, and it
isn’t just a bunch of models modelling high street and
high end fashion, it’s an experience, there’s dancers
and performance before the models even take to the
catwalk.
TREND: So, do you see yourself with a career in mod-
elling after the Clothes Show Live gig or will modelling
be something that you do on the side?
TYRA: Well I think that I’m going to keep my options
open for right now in terms of careers right now be-
cause I’m still young, I’m trying to keep my options
but I do see modelling in my future because it was
definetely an experience.
TREND: Have any other great opprtunities come
from signing up with a modelling agency such as
Select Models helped your modelling ‘career’ in any
other way?
TYRA: Yes, definitely. I have been offered to walk in
the Clothes Show Live catwalk for another year. I have
also been offered to go to multiple castings with JD,
Foot Locker and other stores of that kind. I would say
being in the Clothes Show line up is a big stepping
stone for any aspiring model and I have most defi-
nitely progressed,
