As a fashion and beauty conscious women being up to date with the latest fashion trends through reading magazines is a necessity. From reading mainstream magazines I have realised that a lot of them fail to cover African fashion and beauty, as they do not understand that many Africans have curves or darker skin etc. This particular issue of Afrique is the ‘stand out’ issue, which consists of tips and motivational stories to inspire its readers to do more. I created Afrique to provide Africans with a magazine that deals with African issues such as the pressure of getting married early, products that are effective on African hair or skin and traditional African clothing.

I was lucky to be young mother and work all the way. My daughter always kept me grounded on what’s important, a supportive husband has kept me stable and supported me throughout. I have always had a home to come back and recharge. I have suffered stress and politics and deception as any other natural leader, but I have seen success, growth and rewards. So life balances up when you have a strong core in your personal life and when you have the vision to see what is next, a purpose, if not nothing makes sense. Lessons Learned From Five of Marketing's Top Minds - starring Robert Rose, An...Workfront
Marketing is a Learning Experience
Great marketing has always been about trial and error and knowing when things are working and when they’re not. This has never been truer than it is now.
Now long ago, the most prominent voices in marketing were fresh out of school, just starting their careers, and making their own share of mistakes. Between then and now, what experiences turned them into the thought leaders they are today?
We asked five of these thought leaders to share with us their most transformative job experiences and what they learned. We hope you enjoy what they shared with us.
As always, fellow marketers, keep experimenting, keep learning, and keep improving!

In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

4. There has been stereotype
on make up and the female
gender for the past decades
that makeup is only for
girls. This can be shown
by the observation made
on makeup and beauty
advertisments displayed in
the makeup market, all the
models are female. Most
likely the targeted market
of those advertisements is
directed towards female as
well. Even the employees
in the makeup stores are
displaying that female is the
predominant group in the
makeup industry.
However, for the past few
years, the male gender
seems to be interested in
this industry too. Thanks
to internet, espesically
Youtube. Both genders
are more exposed to the
makeup industry more than
ever. The number of male in
this industry is growing. This
is displayed through the
increasing number of male
beauty guru on Youtube.
This phenomenon is not
only occuring on the
Youtube platform, but also
in the makeup industry as
a whole. Many professional
makeup artists are in fact
male. In the 2016, teen
vogue nominated eleven top
makeup artists. Out of the
eleven artists, six of them
are male. This shows that
the male gender is emerging
into this industry and they
are slowly dominating the
professional field.
After the U.S, I can
confidently say that Korea
is the second largest
entertainment industry. In
the Korea entertainment
industry, many male
artists are using makeup
to enhance their facial
features. Korea is now doing
a good job in normalising
the use of makeup on guys,
and it is definitely affecting
people’s perspective on
makeup and the male
gender.
Hence, for our magazine,
we have chosen a neutral
toned colour theme to
display our respects for
the male workers in the
makeup industry and wish
to celebrate the gender
equality in utilising makeup
as a tool to enhance some
flaws.

24. You have no doubt seen this
trending all of everywhere
throughout your Instagram
feeds, Snapchat and Twitter.
After all, when a make-up
technique promises to offer
you big and brighter eyes,
it goes viral. And like most
flourishing makeup trends,
this one originates from the
Kardashians.
Cut creasing is a technique
created with eyeshadows
that has still been around
since the days of the silent
films. Employed as a way
of drawing guided attention
to actresses eyes in black
and white films, the style
was softer than the modern
version, but had the same
premise.
Simply put, apply a lighter
shade eyeshadow all over
your lid and then add a
darker shade of eyeshadow
on top of your lid crease.
Hence the name cut crease.
page 24
THE ART OF THE
cut crease
26. Start up with an eye primer,
then apply a light shade of
eyeshadow over your whole
lidspace all the way up to
your brow.
Use a dark eyeliner to sketch
a V-shape. Start from the
crease in the middle of your
eye and connect to the outer
corner. With a brush blend
the line you’ve just drawn
towards the outer corner of
your eye.
Using the top line of your
eyeliner as a guide, apply
the eyeshadow over the line
and slightly blend above to
create a soft smokey effect.
Add definition to your lash
line with winged eyeliner.
Brush the same eyeshadow
you used above your cut
crease, along your bottom
lash line.
Finally, apply mascara and
add false lashes for a more
dramatic look.

34. There are some big beauty
questions that many could
have perfectly answered in
about three seconds.
There are a few about your
favourite pressed powder or
liquid, your hairstyle, if you
get a lot of zits. Others are a
lot more difficult to answer.
There are a tonne of tests
out there that will teach you
in how to figure it out, but
once you know, what good
does it do for your beauty
routine? There are so many
different techniques to look

embrace it!” – Rebecca
out for. If you know that you
are pale, does knowing your
skin undertone really impact
the type of foundations you
purchase and apply daily?
Actually, it is kind of a huge
deal because it is not just as
simple as being so pale.
“All skin complexions might
change depending on a tan
or freckles, for example, but
your skin undertone never
changes” she says.
We went to a professional
skin expert to find out what
exactly you need to know
about your skin undertone
and what knowing that little
fact really does for your skin.
There is a greater difference
between a skin complexion
than one’s skin undertone.
In fact, there are so many
elements to consider when
discovering your skin.
You may have had already
known that you either have
a pale, medium, or a deep
skin tone—it can easily be
seen. That is what makeup
artist and founder of Rouge
New York Rebecca Perkins

35. says it is your “complexion.”
But how light or dark your
skin is, is based completely
separate from your actual
undertone. You may be able
to discover many products.
Finding foundations entirely
matching correctly to your
lightened and darked tones
of your skin, however if the
foundation has the incorrect
undertone, it will never be
a perfected match. Perkins
says that this is something
that lots of her customers
struggle with on the daily.
Is there another difference
between the two? Indeed,
your skin’s complexion can
change. It doesn’t matter
how much sunlight you get
(or avoid), you will forever
have that undertone. Have
you heard of warm and cool
undertones? Well, of course
you would’ve—but did you
know there are a lot more
undertones than even that.
According to Perkins, there
are also neutral undertones
like beige, as well as red,
orange and olive skintones.
These skintones combined
with your complexion, will
make up your unique skin
color, embrace it!
So how do you tell what you
are? Check our your veins.
“If the veins under your skin
are blue, then you likely lean
towards the cooler end of
the spectrum,” says Perkins.
“If they look green, you are
more likely to have a warm
skintone. This translates, for
example, cooler colour tones
of pink blushes will work for
a cool-toned person.
page 35
36. Shopping for makeup can be
a hassle as it is, so knowing
your skin’s undertones will
help you in narrowing down
your selections to products
that suit you the best. Don’t
worry, your skin’s undertone
won’t jeopordise your choice
of eye makeup options.
Girls who have any signs
of cooling undertones can
flaunt any eyeshadows
and vice versa. Mostly all
shades of eyeshadow that
look most flattering on you
will have more to do with
your hair, eye color and
your personal preferences.
Whereyourskin’sundertone
does come into play is when
it comes to facial makeup,
like foundation, concealer,
contour, and blush.
Similar as to foundation, if
you have cool undertones,
you should select a cool–
toned contour shade and if
you have warm undertones,
you should select a warm–
toned contour. Contouring, it
is meant to create a natural,
shadowed like effect that’s
achieved by applying shade
that matches to your skin’s
undertone into the hollows
of your cheekbones, is right
under the jawline and along
your temples, toward down
the sides of your nose.
“If you choose a shade that
is opposite from your skin’s
undertone, the results can
be far less than the natura
look!”. Says makeup artist
Amanda.
Bear with us, were about to
throw a wrench into things!
When it comes to blushes,
it is generally best to wear
a blush that’s opposite from
your skin’s undertone (this is
just a suggestion!). A blush
shade that’s different from
your skin’s undertone will
pop more with dimension.

37. Let’s start by clearing up the
confusion around skin tone
verses skin undertone. Your
skin’s tone can be described
as being a porcelain, ivory,
medium, olive, deep tone.
Your skin’s undertone lies
beneath your face and can
be described as being cool,
warm, and or neutral. Don’t
beleive into the assumption
that fair-skinned people are
cool skinned and that dark–
skinned girls are undertone.

44. I was 14 when I discovered I
have an oval face. I learned
this from reading Kevyn
Aucoin’s ‘‘Making Faces,’’ a
glossy volume published in
1997 that quickly became
a kind of sacred text among
teenage girls.
We all trekked to the
Borders at Winrock mall
in Albuquerque to buy a
copy, using the savings we
had built up by babysitting
or halfheartedly frothing
lattes for minimum wage.
We lugged the book home
commune in private with its
thick, creamy paperstock full
of wisdom about lip shapes,
brow bleaching and false
eyelashes.
We propped it against
the bathroom sink as we
mashed our fingers into our
cheekbones, feeling for deep
bone structure. We pored
over close-ups of celebrity
pores, eager to claim affinity
with the actres supermodel
whose skin most matched
our own.
The girls who learned from
Aucoin that they had heart-
shaped faces let everyone
at school know about it
in the nasal braggadocio
common to a certain breed
of adolescent queen bee.
They were special; the rest
of us could only dream of
possessing jawlines that
end point like valentines.
‘‘Making Faces’’ transform
Aucoin, at 35, into an
instant expert on the
art of being beautiful.
He published three such
coffee-table treatises
in all, but ‘‘Faces’’ is his
masterpiece, the purest
distillation of his view that
makeup is performance,
an opportunity for women
(and drag queens, of
course) to gleefully
metamorphose with just a
few sweeps of a brush.
When ‘‘Making Faces’’ came
out, we had no Sephora, no
YouTube tutorial to lay bare
the intricacies of the smoky
eye. What Aucoin did, first
with ‘‘The Art of Makeup’’ in
1996 and then with ‘‘Making
Faces,’’ was give us a codex,
a working syllabus, a kind of
‘‘Joy of Cooking’’ with kohl.
In the introduction to
‘‘Faces,’’ after a page of
candid Polaroids of the
celebrities whose cheeks
he had made dewy a ’90s

Evangelista, Courtney Love,
Tina Turner, Lady Bunny
Aucoin wrote of growing
up as a ‘‘gay, effeminate,

the other boys in my school
dreamed of traveling to
the moon or winning the
Super Bowl,’’ he wrote, ‘‘I
dreamt of glossy red lips
and sparkling skin. By the
age of 11, I knew I wanted
to be a makeup artist.’’ Until
I read ‘‘Faces,’’ I had always
regarded makeup as a
secret skill to be mastered.
Aucoin insisted it was a
game anyone could play.
You just had to decide who
you wanted to be that day.
‘‘Making Faces’’ grouped
techniques under types,
creating looks based on
the women we aspired
to be. There was the
Chanteuse, the Bombshell,
the Gamine. Each was
defined by a particular
makeup application, and
each came with her own
vignette. Of the Heroine,
defined by pink blush and a
minimal taupe lip pencil, he
wrote: ‘‘From Joan of Arc to
Amelia Earhart ... their look
was ethereal yet practical
to the point of androgyny.’’
Aucoin saw makeup as
mythmaking: join the ranks
of great women with a
smear of pink gloss.
The point is that his 3 books,
The Art of Makeup, Making
Faces and Face Forward
are definitive. Sold out an
auditorium in Pasadena for
a contouring master class
that cost as much as $1,000.
The Aucoin contour book,
a boxed set of bronzing
and luminizing powders
that honors his legacy, is
available at Sephora.
Apply foundation and a
cream or powder a few
shades lighter than your
skin tone to your forehead
and cheekbones and down
the center of the nose.
Brush on a color a few
shades darker and ruddier
than your skin tone to the
jawline, hairline, sides of the
nose, and in the hollows of
the cheeks. But after you
swirl the colors together and
smooth out the lines, your
cheeks will appear to jut out,
your nose will look regal.
Done right, your face is

48. Contouring is not easy to
master. It has taken me
half a year of practice to
flesh out the subtleties of
my angles, to learn how to
whip up that soft, creamy
glow that is the promise of
hundreds of thousands of
YouTube tutorials.
In one interview, Aucoin
described learning
‘‘How to dive into people’s
souls and to interpret that
on their face. ... My goal in
life is to have women take
over the world.’’
This kind of empowerment
lingo has become the
currency of YouTube
tutorials; stars of the
medium, like Michelle Phan,
Bethany Mota and Zoella,
chirpily chat about beauty
as power, step-by-step
makeup lessons as radical
self-love. But their words
don’t carry the weight
that ‘‘Making Faces’’ did.
Aucoin’s book was like a

first vulnerable forays into

public, noisy conformity
now required to go viral.
