My Career Goals
First 5 Years of CompletingMy Bachelor’s Degree: I do not expect to receive a
degree then literally the next day I am a big name branded designer flying all over the
world. I know that it will take time.
Goal 1: Within the first five years I would at least like to be locally known, or maybe
even regionally known as a designer. Maybe I could start small as a seamstress. To do this
I will need to work very hard and have the mindset to actually do this. I will work my butt
of and search as much as I have to so that I can get on the right path to start my journey.
Goal 2: I would like to have an idea of where I will plan to live to be successful
because I feel like it will be pointless to obtain a degree and then live where there is not
high chance or industry near you to even receive recognition. Even though it has been
hard for me in the present but I will network and get my name out. I will strive to be
great. This has been a challenge for me because I choose not to interact due to fears. I will
get over them, I know I can and I will.
Goal 3: I would like to have my own place or studio to do my work in. Once again,
this all comes from determination. I will work hard and save and start a budget
(something that is not in my current vocabulary.) No one else will do this for me so it is all
up to me to prevail and determine my success. I will need to make an investment.
Goal 4: I would like to have a job that would be able to let me take small steps and
possibly get me further to being a designer. I will look for jobs that I qualify for and also
ones that will actually benefit me. If I will not be able to move up in these careers as I
advance then there will be no point in working there. At this point in my life I will
understand that I should not waste my time on anything that will not count towards me
being great.
Goal 5: Even though I do not think I will be as successful as I plan to be, I would like
to be financially stable while also preparing to fulfill my dream. Once again, I will create a
budget. I am slowly developing the mentality of not being so materialistic and making
sure that I am comfortable rather than being “fancy” 24/7.
5 Long Term Goals Within 10 Years of Completing My Degree: By this time I would
like to be considered as a Fashion Designer rather than just a person with a degree in this
field. I would like to have some type of national recognition or at least very well known
and popular for my work.
Goal 1: I would like to be VERY successful as a designer. I would like to be able to
say that my hard work has paid off and be happy with what I do. This will pay off by me
networking within the first year. I do not want to be a good designer, I would like to be an
amazing designer. Better than average. I would like to be an inspiration to someone one
day.
Goal 2: I would like to have my own website launched, maybe even my own
business. An average size space for me to publish my designs. I will develop relationships
with the right people, the ones who will care about my accomplishments as much as I do.
Ones that will want me to keep improving. This seems like a struggle right now because I
am antisocial. I really do not like the thought of having to interact with others but I am
aware that working in the fashion industry will require making relationships. I have
learned that this is a very competitive career. If I do not take my job serious then
someone will be able to move ahead of me.
Goal 3: By now I would love to be able to say that I have visited the fashion capital
of the world, which is Paris. This is a goal that I have desired for a very long time. If I am
actually a well known designer then financial situations would be better for me. I will
conquer my fear of getting on an airplane. I will manage my funds at the right time so
this trip will be in action.
Goal 4: I would like to live in either NYC or Los Angeles. NYC is the fashion capital of
the US, I feel like it would be stupid of me to not live where the heart of my career is. By
now since I have plans to be well known for what I will do then I really feel as if I’d be
almost obligated to live here. Asheville is nice but I have learned that I will need to get
over my fears to live my life. It is completely normal to be scared but by this time I will
learn to be a “big girl” I want the best for myself and I feel as if living in either of these
places will bring positive results and help me continue to improve. I never want to stop
learning.
Goal 5: I would like to be making the average salary that a typical fashion designer
makes. Now this, overall will come from everything that I plan to do. If you want to do
something then it will come from making a hustle. You have to want it enough to do it. If
you don’t have the heart for it then it will all fall down. You will not do your best or put in
any effort towards what you do. My career will be my number one priority, whatever gets
in the way of me succeeding will not be tolerated. If it takes all day and all night to
succeed in what I want to do then I will do it and I will be happy while I am doing it.
Here is a small description of what I have learned about this career and also a little
bit of explaining how I feel it is right for me: The fashion design career, has recently
emerged as one of the most popular and competitive among young people. Those who
actually succeed in design have a very individualistic personal style and don’t follow trends
set by others. Having fashion design as your profession sometimes allows you to meet
glamorous people. It can also put you in charge of what is in and out when it comes to
clothing through ramp shows and fashion write-ups. Most designers have a great social
status, and are accepted by everyone. Many talented individuals are attracted to careers as
designers. Most designers who work for large or small manufacturers pick an area of
specialization.
They understand the needs of their clients and create attractive, functional
garments and accessories. When designing they must keep a close watch on fit, style,
color, texture, size, and material. Designing any outfit starts with sketching and original
idea on paper or on computer programs. Creativity and artistic abilities are crucial to have
a design occupation. They must be able to understand their customers. Being an excellent
communicator and very clear with their ideas will reflect in their work and success.
Fashion designers must be fashion conscious and aware of market requirements. The
fashion design industry is very large and you must work hard to join those whom are part
of it. It’s not just about the pay or benefits that draw most people to this career. It’s the
liberal feeling of creating new things and making creative, new looks. It’s about self
expression and freedom to share an opinion on what you think is cool. Some like it, and
others don’t, because of everything it stands for or what they would have to do.
