Mackenzie Lynch received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from Cornell University in 2016. She has experience modeling optimization methods for solid waste management, water, and air pollution control. She designed a new sand filter for a water treatment plant and delivered the design proposal in a written report and oral presentation. She also has experience analyzing renewable energy systems, calculating heating costs, and designing bioswales to reduce flooding. She is proficient in MATLAB, Python, Mathcad, and communications related to sustainability and environmental risks.

SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
Analysis
• Modeled optimization methods to evaluate alternatives for solid-waste management, and water and air
pollution control
• Designed a new sand filter for the Agua Clara 1 L/s plant, and delivered the proposed design to a client
as a written report and an oral presentation
• Calculated and compared heating degree days (HDD) using a weather simulation and the Albright
correction approach
• Determined the fractions of total heat loss through separate parts of a home, and calculated the cost of
the yearly heating energy plus the yearly amortized cost of the insulation
• Conducted an analysis of the economics of renewable energy systems
• Solved and derived solutions for Agua Clara’s water treatment plant, including Mechanical Flocculation
and Modeling, Hydraulic Flocculation, Sedimentation and Filtration
• Designed, with a team of landscape architects and environmental engineers, bioswales and rain gardens
for Block Park in Kingston, NY in order to reduce the frequency and severity of the flood events
• Modeled treatment plans for various projects including BOD and dissolved oxygen, nitrification,
photosynthesis and respiration using STELLA and Excel
Communication
• Communicated to clients about the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy systems
• Designed and presented to angel investors a complete business plan for The Weekend Guru
• Discussed with classmates and faculty ways to make Cornell University a more sustainable campus, as
well as ways to educate the Cornell community on sustainability
§ Investigated how communication effects public perceptions of environmental risk and public opinion
about the environment
§ Communicated clearly and effectively in a fast paced environment with coworkers to help ensure a
positive customer experience
Initiative
• Developed and presented with a team sustainable engineering solutions for Appledore Island in relation
to energy, water supply, and waste treatment
• Devised method for efficiently treating waste water contamination
• Participated in The Energy Smackdown: Fall Energy Competition on Cornell University Campus
• Grouped family and friends to join me in the Big East End Clean Up
