6. What is acne?
Acne vulgaris affects up to 80% of the population at some point in their lives, characterized by areas of skin
with seborrhea (scaly red skin), comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), papules (pinheads), pustules
(pimples), Nodules (large papules) and possibly scarring. Acne affects mostly the face, the upper part of the
chest, and the back. Acne can be inflammatory. The lesions are caused by changes in pilosebaceous units, skin
structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland, changes that require androgen
stimulation.

7. How does Lustre Pure Light work?
P.acnes, the bacteria which cause acne produce mainly corproporphyrin 3 which has an
absorption spectrum peak of 415 nm. Photo irradiation of P. Acnes colonies with visible blue
light has shown to lead to photoexcitation of endogenous bacterial porphyrins, singlet oxygen
production and subsequent bacterial destruction 1
