State of Central Florida Arts Organizations 2012PresentMark
This document summarizes data from 81 arts organizations in Central Florida. It finds that while revenues for the arts universe were $59.5 million in 2012-2013, expenses were $55.9 million. Most arts organizations have small endowments, relying more on donations, grants, and earned revenue. The data also shows that arts organizations have relatively low overhead but need to improve board governance and management practices to increase long-term sustainability.
The document discusses the role of hype in new technologies and predicting their futures. It argues that (1) hype is necessary to create "bubbles" that inflate investment in new innovations and allow them to overcome resistance to change, (2) bubbles signify a change from old to new systems and mark the transition from high growth to slower growth, and (3) while it is difficult to predict technology futures precisely, there are broader patterns and laws such as Moore's law that provide some guidance.
The document discusses the topic of big data, including what it is, who needs it, and how it works. It defines big data as data that is large in volume, high in velocity, or varied in type. It notes that big data is generated from many sources like social networks, sensors, and online transactions. The tools used to manage big data include distributed file systems, MapReduce, and data mining techniques. The future of big data is expected to include handling much more and varied types of data from sources like the Internet of Things.
The document provides an overview of a workshop on blogging for researchers. It discusses setting up university blogs using WordPress, examples of existing university blogs, the purpose and benefits of blogging, technical aspects of creating blog posts, and tips for effective blogging. The document discusses backup strategies and recovery procedures. It begins by asking questions about backup strategies, including the types of backups (full, differential, incremental), backup media, testing backups, and developing backup procedures. It then discusses the importance of data backups, noting that many organizations that lose their data go out of business. Key aspects of developing an effective backup strategy include assessing risks, testing recovery procedures, and ensuring continuity of services. RAID systems and disaster recovery plans (DRP) can help with the backup strategy and continuity of services.
Best practices for running MySQL on production - Vaibhav UpadhyayMydbops
This document discusses best practices for running MySQL in production environments. It covers the importance of backups, having high availability (HA), and troubleshooting MySQL issues. Specifically, it recommends:
1. Using both logical and physical backups, with logical backups being storage efficient but physical backups being faster to backup and restore.
2. Implementing basic HA to avoid single points of failure, provide fault tolerance, and reduce unplanned downtime. However, HA cannot be used as the only backup strategy.
3. Defining problems clearly, checking resources and historical usage, comparing query behavior, and reaching out to the community for help when troubleshooting MySQL issues.

Webinar: 2018 Disaster Recovery Checklist - 5 Key Areas to ImproveStorage Switzerland
Is your organization ready for any disaster 2018 may throw at it? Organizations not only face new threats they also encounter decreased tolerance for downtime from users. The good news is there are plenty of new solutions that claim to improve an organization’s ability to recover from a disaster. But which one makes the most sense for your organization? And what about your processes? Recovery technology needs to partner with solid DR processes in order for an organization to see its way through the challenges ahead.
Continuity planners follow a methodology which elicits recovery requirements (RTO, RPO) from stakeholders and seeks to build capacity to meet those requirements. However, all disasters are not created equal and the reality is that most businesses, while able to meet those requirements for some scenarios, simply cannot meet them for more disruptive scenarios. Scenario-based Recovery Metrics give continuity planners a method to measure their ability to recover for a range of scenarios, from simpler to more complex. This facilitates measurement of deficits relative to the stakeholder's requirements for a range of scenarios. Furthermore, this method gives opportunity for continuity planners to dialogue with stakeholders and explain that 'we can meet your requirements for this set of simpler scenarios, however with our current recovery capacity we are unable to meet them for these more disruptive scenarios’. This dialogue 1.) Prevents unrealistic expectations and 2.) Lays the groundwork for making the case for budgets and projects for remediation of these deficits. These scenarios also provide a basis for the development of exercises to test recovery capability.

Backup is not Backup, Restore is Backup SPSCincy 2012John Ferringer
It's an easy mistake to make. Because so much planning, preparation, and configuration can go into properly protecting your SharePoint environment from disaster such as a data center outage, server failure, or unintentional deletion, you don't always have a chance to think about how you are going to get those resources back once you've protected them. It comes down to this: all the backups in the world aren't going to do you a bit of good if you don't know how to restore them when you need to. In this presentation, SharePoint expert and author John Ferringer will help you turn the focus away from what you should do before a disaster and start thinking about what you need to do after it. John will cover the characteristics of a successful restore, how to know when you've recovered your backups properly, and what you can do to better position your backups for a successful restore when the chips are down.
This document discusses data backup, recovery, and disaster planning. It defines backup as creating duplicate copies of important data and explains different backup types (full, incremental, differential). Backup media include tapes, disks, and optical storage. Creating a backup schedule, testing restores, and storing backups securely and offsite are recommended. Disaster recovery involves restoring systems after damage and includes strategies like automated recovery, backing up open files, and maintaining hot, warm or cold backup sites.
