Digital transformation means a set of predominantly technological, cultural, organizational, social, creative, and managerial changes, associated with digital technology applications, in all aspects of human society.
By acting organically and in combination with these elements, digital transformation goes beyond the simple adoption of new technologies. It enables services to be delivered, goods to be provided, experiences to be lived, and large amounts of content to be found, processed, and made accessible regardless of the actual availability of resources (human, material, intellectual, and economic, etc.). This contributes to the pervasive creation of new connections between people, places and things. The implementation of digital technologies in public and private organizational systems can raise service level standards and transparency, improve interactions with citizens, stimulate innovation, improve decision-making, increase development of smart solutions and services that have a positive impact in the territory.
The process of digital transformation or digital transformation is enabled by the development of new technologies, but it is not limited to their adoption; it integrates and involves the entire ecosystem touched by the process, encouraging transparency, sharing and inclusion of all participants.
In this session we report examples do public administrations and private companies contributing to digital transformation in the territory

Following up on our founder’s speech, let me tell how this story about water and the water quality.
Ensuring water quality in Vienna - creating continuous situation awareness by combining GeoSpatial and Real-Time technology, open standards and smart data models.
Since over a decade were are working closely together with water department of Vienna. Year after year we are doing our best do support them with GeoSpatial Technology that best fits their needs. Since it’s IT, what lasts longer than 5-7 years? We started using desktop software, from market leader platform ArcGIS, bringing it to the web and mobile, digitalise and automized new processes.
As a result, we have implemented a powerful and user friendly water distribution management system based on GeoSpatial technology.
WORKING HORSE
But that story is told.
I am gonna tell you, what’s next, what will make an impact soon.
But that story is told.
I am gonna tell you, what’s next, what will make an impact soon.
Based on real data from different data sources we will have the right data available and harmonized at our hands which allows us to generate a continues situation awareness in a seamless digital platform.
Since data processing will be implemented in a near real time scenario and the system allows to simulate different quality impacts it will allow us to train on data, learn from data, to constantly improve our emergency procedures.
Our current challenge, we are working together right now, is a tool to create a continuous situation awareness of water distribution and quality using geospatial & iot technology.
There is a need for a digital (training) tool, working with actual and real time data, to constantly be aware of status of the system (not the sub systems) and be able to simulate different scenarios with water quality.
In other words, it is all about having the right information in the fastest possible way at hand when needed.
And I am gonna tell you, how we are gonna tackle that one and why we think Fiware will make an impact here.
This is something the end procduct will look like . Are we there yet?
Ok, so the challenge is a tool about situation awareness, you may ask, ah is this all about a shiny dashboard?
YES and NO, sure there will be a shiny dashboard at then end, but what is more challenging is the way to get there.
If you think of the final product, we know it will be something like that.
But to get there, you have to start with the basic, understand your ingredients and know how they will best work together.

Eventually we will have a dashboard.
So this is a story about INTEGRATION. We will have to bring together different data sources, making those different data sets working together smoothly, or MAKE IT UNDERSTANDABLE and USABLE in the first place.
CONNECT SYSTEMS
MAKE DATA UNDERSTANDABLE AND USABLE FOR PEOPLE
Here comes the FiWare Framework into the game.
Our approach is, to connect to those data sources and make them usable via an NGSI Smart Data model. We already identified the Smart Data Model for Water Quality, which will be a good starting point from us.
The technical challenge will be to transform source data into this json based smart data model.
Can we integrate system with OPEN SOURCE; OPEN STANDARDS, SMART DATA MODELS YES!Can we make data understandable and usable using SMART DATA MODELS YES!
We will then bundle all those datasets and making it usable via an Open API, here we think of the Fiware Context Broker Generic enabler, as the right starting point to make Context Data usable, shareable.
Design considerations
Since the water department already has their excellent asset documentation realized as a GeoSpatial software, we wanna integrate and make access to Fiware
Today I have the pleasure to announce that we started an initiative to tie GIS and Fiware closely together.
We are working on generic plugins for ArcGIS PRO, QGIS and OpenLayers, three very popular GIS Systems widely used, to directly connect to Fiware Context Broker instances making Context Data usable directly and instantly and GIS Platforms.
Since we are part of the Fiware community and committed to the idea of Open Source, you can follow our progress on github.
We have started on github repository for each technology, and we also added a GIS – Fiware – Quickstart Demo, to quickly setup a Fiware context broker Instance loaded with Open Government Data from the City of Vienna.
Come over to over booth or visit or landing page www.msgis.com to find out more about it.
Here is a sneak peak, you see a demo of sample html page, integrating OpenLayers technology, showcasing our approach to connect to Fiware instance in a generic way, scan for entity types, detect spatial contect and loading it in the map.
Wrap-up, so far we are working on ArcGIS PRO, QGIS, OpenLayers, but let us know what you need.
We are aware, that there or lots of other GIS Software products out there, we thought starting with ArcGIS PRO, QGIS and OpenLayers is a good starting point.
But let us know, if there is demand for more integrations. Here is our LIVE Voting – we kindly ask you to submit your VOTE and tell us YOUR demand, where would you love the have a GIS-FIWARE integration?
