Why We Fail: How an architect learned to stop worrying and love the cloudAlex Jauch
Private cloud has been the “up and coming” trend for several years. You would think this would mean we’re all running clouds inside our firewalls by now. In reality, this hasn’t happened. Why? Where are all the clouds? All the technical skills that the IT folks need to get this done are normally in house or easily accessible to them. So you would think that private clouds would be super common. Turns out they are not. Only a very small minority of IT organizations have deployed successful internal Private Clouds. There are notable exceptions, but they’re just that, exceptions. Why is this so hard? Why can’t folks get this done in their sleep? In this book, we will explore the reasons why we fail and how to overcome these obstacles to success in our private cloud deployments.

Valencia Smart City project powered by Telefonica and Red Hat IoT solutionsDavid Bericat
Valencia has selected Telefonica's Global Internet of Things (IoT) platform (which runs on Red Hat OpenStack and leverages Red Hat Mobile Application Platform) and the Red Hat JBoss Fuse solution for IoT to be the foundation for their Smart City project. Learn how and why citizens will be able to consume real-time information shared by several city facilities like parking, and others, to make their lives easier.
The document discusses the concept of a digital city and what constitutes one. Key factors include technological infrastructure, education, jobs, and citizen services. A digital city would provide dashboards for citizens with information on local events, resources, regulations, and more. It would involve collaboration between government, businesses, non-profits, and citizens. The goal is to create digital jobs through multimedia projects that train workers and are hosted on open servers. This could be a self-sustaining model that spurs entrepreneurship and job growth in the digital economy.
