Catherine Spurritt introduced a new approach called AIM to teaching French at year 7 that focuses on near-complete immersion supported by gestured cues. She developed and implemented a curriculum using this approach over three terms with positive results. Students responded well to the immersion environment and using gestures helped take meaning from the new language. Moving forward, the school aims to expand AIM to years 7 and 8 and provide staff training to confidently implement the program.
