Lost

"Ring......" my alarm clock signalled the start of a new day. I woke up happily as today was my
birthday. My mother was going to the shopping centre to buy herself some clothes as well as buy me
a birthday gift.

When we reached the shopping centre, I saw lots of sections selling different kinds of things.
There were sections selling furniture, food and electrical items. I followed my mother to the ladies'
apparel as she wanted to buy some clothes for herself.

"If you stay close to me until I am done buying the clothes I need, I will bring you to the toys
section to buy the toy you want for your birthday present," explained my mother to me. It was very
hard to keep close to my mother as the ladies' apparel section was crowded with people.

When my mother was done with the ladies' apparel section, we headed off to check out the
other sections. When we passed by the toys section, the toys that were on display caught my eye. A
glow lit upon my face. I wandered off away from my mother and walked eagerly towards the toys
section. I played happily with toys. Then, I saw the racing car that I was longing to buy.

When I was done playing with the toys, I went out of the toys section to tell my mother that I
had chosen the toy that I wanted for my birthday. When I went out of the toys section, I could not
see my mother anywhere. Eventually, I realised that I was lost! I was so frightened out my wits! A
chill ran down my spine. Frantic, I bawled like a newborn baby. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I was
shaking in fear. I looked around frantically for my mother but to no avail.

Then, two strangers took pity on me as they saw me walking around, crying. They asked me
why I was crying and I told them I had lost my mother. They brought me to the customer service
counter. I told the receptionist my name and he made an announcement over the speakers of the
shopping centre that I was lost. After a few minutes of waiting, I saw my mum coming towards me
with an anxious look on her face. She thanked the receptionist and the two strangers for helping me.
I also felt grateful and thanked them.

After that incident, I promised to never leave my mother's side in a crowded place. I also
got a tongue lashing from my mother. I learnt my lesson well.
