I am writing this letter of recommendation for Brent McDougal. I have worked with Brent for
the last two years at Cliffs Natural Resources. He has been a great mentor and a great leader. I
have worked at Cliffs for more than five years, and have had several managers. By far, Brent has
shown the most understanding and leadership regarding the supply chain system that I have
seen while at Cliffs. I would say that he has surpassed all other managers including the executive
vice president of our own supply chain. Many times people ask Brent questions regarding
operations and maintenance regarding the equipment. Many times he answers questions about
logistics, international shipping and the required permits and fees since nobody else knows the
answers. I can say that many of the supervisors and general foreman rely on Brent’s direction
even though he is not their immediate manager. For our team specifically, I can say the morale
was very low when Brent started, but through his leadership he gave us the tools and
understanding we needed to meet our metrics. Michigan Operations became the leader in most
of the KPI standings for the last two years.
We had one buyer reassign to a new assignment for one year and Brent took over half the work
load as a buyer and maintained his management duties. In doing so, not only did he learn our
roles as buyers, it gave us a tremendous amount of respect that he was willing to step in and
help us as a team. At the beginning of the year, another buyer left the company and now it has
only been Brent and I. Again, our work load has increased and he has been very supportive
and willing to learn anything he can to help us get through this transition.
I highly recommend Brent for any company that is looking for a true leader. His honesty and
the fact that you can talk to him about any situation makes him a true team leader and team
member. He does not micro manage and has helped us understand our metrics, and how to
accomplish our metrics. He has been an excellent teacher and will always support us even if we
make a mistake. I know Brent will be an asset to your company.
