Lois completed a 70 hour placement with Success4All c.i.o. where she helped manage their social media presence and organized a successful fundraising event. According to her supervisor's evaluation, Lois demonstrated excellent planning, communication, teamwork and personal enterprise skills. Specifically, Lois redesigned Success4All's donate page, increased their social media following, and planned an event that raised over £180 for the organization. The supervisor was very pleased with Lois' work and contributions to Success4All.

Lois, alongside another media and communications CDM student
successfully planned an event that linked to our social media channels.
At the beginning of the year, a target was set to organise and run a social
media campaign to raise Success4All’s profile online.
In preparation for the social media campaign Lois redesigned
Success4All’s donate page on the website. Rather than just sticking to
social media, Lois organised an event called ‘The Great West End Bake
Off’ to link to the social media campaign in order to not only raise
awareness, but to raise funds for Success4All. Lois took their Media
Communications role one step further and took on events and
fundraising.
We set a £5 donation for those who wanted to enter the Bake Off and set
a target to sign up 10 bakers. It was £2 to enter on the day to taste the
cakes and vote and we set a target to have an attendance of 30 people on

2. the day. 14 people signed up as bakers (4 more than target) and
approximately 50-60 people came on the day to vote (20-30 more than
target). In total we raised £180 from the event. Although the event was
outside the realms of the role, there was still a social media focus to the
event. Those who did not attend on the day could vote via Facebook by
liking the photo of their favourite cake. Through this event, Success4All’s
Facebook likes increased by 143.
Lois also secured a sponsorship for the event, a local restaurant that is
close to our Learning Hubs in the West End, popular with our
beneficiaries. Fazal’s Café sponsored the event by giving us their events
room for free. Chloe also secured 6 prizes in total for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
that were donated to Success4All from companies such as Cath Kidston,
Kirkley Hall Zoo and Tyneside Cinema.
The event was a great success that has raised our profile not only on
social media but within our community. The event was organised a small
cost from Success4All because of the excellent communication skills
that secured free room hire and prizes, and raised £180. This money is
really beneficial for Success4All and will be used to buy new resources
for our Learning Hubs.

3. Additional Evidence and Comments: Please provide examples of the student’s competence and how
they contributed positively to meeting the aims of your organisation.
After an initial meeting with Lois, she understood that in order for her to successfully run
a social media campaign in the second term, she had to spend the first term
understanding Success4All, what we do, the language that we use etc. to give her an idea
of a suitable social media campaign that would fit the needs of Success4All. In order to do
this Lois’s task in the first term was to make Success4All’s Facebook and Twitter page
active with regular posts throughout the week and a weekly blog on the website either
covering Success4All’s news or current educational developments and issues. At the end
of the first term Lois also helped with the Success4All newsletter. In preparation for the
social media campaign, Lois was also set the task to redesign the donate page on
Success4All’s website in the first term.
Planning and organising – Lois demonstrated excellent planning and organisation skills.
In order to blog on a weekly basis, and post regularly on Facebook and Twitter, Lois made
a timetable of Success4All events so that she could order the blogs and posts. As a result
of this timetable, Lois was able to write blogs and posts in advance, and schedule those
weeks in advance to ensure that they would be posted at the correct time. Lois was able
to do this at the same time as redesigning the donate page. She was aware that she would
be away over the Christmas holidays and that the donate page needed to completed
before the social media campaign started in the following term therefore she ensured that
she sent over designs to myself in advance of the Christmas holidays so that the changes
could be made while she was away, ready to start the campaign on her return.
Lois returned in the second term with ideas ready to pitch for the social media campaign.
As this involved an event Lois gave herself 3 and half months to organise and advertise
the event for it to be successful. There was a target set to sign at least 10 bakers up to the
Bake Off event, therefore the first task was to get great prizes so that the competition
looked appealing to people. This also had to be confirmed before flyers were made, as
well as the location. Lois secured 6 prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place as well as room hire
quickly so that advertisement to enter the Bake Off, followed by advertisement to attend
the event could begin well in advance of the event taking place. The event ran smoothly
because of the preparation that went in to the event. On the day before, Lois helped set up
the event so that it was not rushed in the morning, and we all went through the running of
the day.

4. Communication – After the initial meet in October, we met with Lois regularly, usually at
least once a week to discuss progress. In order to write accurate blogs and social media
posts, Lois met with Success4All staff to ask what was happening with Success4All in the
upcoming months and to ask if there was any relevant educational news. Lois was able to
ask further questions when she felt she did not have enough information or did not
understand something so that the media communication was a true reflection of
Success4All.
In addition, Lois successfully explained the redesign of the donate page and was able to
justify the changes well. Lois also displayed excellent communication skills as she was
able to successfully secure 6 prizes for the event from companies such as Cath Kidston
both from face-to-face encounters and email. Lois was also able to secure sponsorship
from Fazal’s Café who gave us free room hire for the event.
I feel like in order to do this well; Lois truly understood who Success4All were and was
able to communicate this with other stakeholders.
Teamwork – Throughout the year Lois worked alongside another Career Development
Student who was also doing the Media Communications role. Both were able to
considered each other’s schedules and split tasks appropriately. Lois has been an
excellent team member at Success4All, who we have met with once a week so that she
can discuss social media posts and blogs. Lois also took a lead on a successful social
media campaign.
Personal Enterprise – In our initial meeting, we discussed that our social media channels
were not that active and our blog posts sparse. We also discussed that we had never run
a social media campaign before. As a result of meeting once a week, Lois had a
significant impact on our media communications, including Facebook, Twitter and blogs
posts, turning them into active channels of communication. Lois successfully came up
with ideas for Success4All’s first social media campaign to raise our profile online. Lois
also linked this to an event in the community, so that our profile could also be directly
raised in the community and to raise funds for Success4All.
Contributions – Lois changed our social media from inactive channels to an active Hub of
information. Over this year, our beneficiaries have been able to keep up with Success4All
news but the activity has also attracted new people. Active channels are really important
to Success4All, as funders will look at charity’s Facebook, Twitter and website when
deciding whether to grant them funding or not. Lois also redesigned Success4All’s donate
page on the website so that it now looks attractive, clear and concise. Previously the

5. donate page was not ready to be viewed, but we are now able to advertise the donate
page. This has opened up a new way of fundraising for us.
Lois took the lead on Success4All’s first social media campaign that not only increased
our Facebook likes by 143, but also raised £180 that will be used to buy new resources for
the Learning Hubs. £70 out of the £180 came through our donate page – the first
donations we have received through this method.
