LOGIC
LOGIC Introductory Terminology Logic: the branch of philosophy (or mathematics) dealing with the art and science of reasoning
LOGIC Introductory Terminology Objective: The vision of reality that presupposes a world that is not dependent upon our thoughts Subjective: The vision of reality that presupposes a world that is dependent upon our thoughts
LOGIC That is: If things are true whether I believe them to be true or not, then realty is OBJECTIVE If things can be true for me and false for you, then reality is SUBJECTIVE
LOGIC Examples: Things like natural sciences, mathematics, logic, etc. only make sense in an OBJECTIVE reality Contrary to popular belief, this must also hold true in disciplines like theology and morality
LOGIC All of this holds true as long as God exists. If God exists then theology and morality are objective: God knows who is right and who is wrong.
LOGIC If morality is SUBJECTIVE, then we can never say things like: Murder is wrong Hitler was wrong Racism is wrong Slavery is wrong The counter to all of these would be: wrong for you, but not for me
LOGIC A subjectivist might say: “There is no such thing as objective truth.” And if he does, then you should ask: “Is that true?” If he says “Yes” then he has agreed to objective truth; and his argument fails. If he says “no” then he has denied subjectivity; and his argument fails.
