State of Play presentation at the LOD2 Plenary Vienna 2012: WP8: Linked Open Data for Enterprise Data Web by Amar-Djalil MEZAOUR,Dassault Systèmes Exalead.
[This is work presented at SIGMOD'13.]
The use of large-scale data mining and machine learning has proliferated through the adoption of technologies such as Hadoop, with its simple programming semantics and rich and active ecosystem. This paper presents LinkedIn's Hadoop-based analytics stack, which allows data scientists and machine learning researchers to extract insights and build product features from massive amounts of data. In particular, we present our solutions to the "last mile" issues in providing a rich developer ecosystem. This includes easy ingress from and egress to online systems, and managing workflows as production processes. A key characteristic of our solution is that these distributed system concerns are completely abstracted away from researchers. For example, deploying data back into the online system is simply a 1-line Pig command that a data scientist can add to the end of their script. We also present case studies on how this ecosystem is used to solve problems ranging from recommendations to news feed updates to email digesting to descriptive analytical dashboards for our members.
Semantic Artificial Intelligence is the fusion of various types of AI, incl. symbolic AI, reasoning, and machine learning techniques like deep learning. At the same time, Semantic AI has a strong focus on data management and data governance. With the 'wedding' of various AI techniques new promises are made, but also fundamental approaches like 'Explainable AI (XAI)', knowledge graphs, or Linked Data are more strongly focused.
Triplestores and inference, applications in Finance, text-mining. Projects and solutions for financial media and publishers.

Science and more specifically projects using HPC is facing a digital data explosion. Instruments and simulations are producing more and more volume; data can be shared, mined, cited, preserved… They are a great asset, but they are facing risks: we can miss storage, we can lose them, they can be misused,… To start this session, we will review why it is important to manage research data and how to do this by maintaining a Data Management Plan. This will be based on the best practices from EUDAT H2020 project and European Commission recommendation. During the second part we will interactively draft a DMP for a given use case.

2016 Federal User Group Conference - DevOps Product StrategyCollabNet
Presented by Eric Robertson, General Manager of the DevOps Product Line at CollabNet, at the Federal User Group Conference on April 28th, 2016 in Washington DC.
Right on the heels of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development, a new movement with the moniker DevOps has further advanced software delivery. Although the Agile software development movement brought iterative and incremental concepts to our industry, in many organizations its reach was relegated to only the application development teams. In many cases, this moved the bottlenecks in organizations from application development to release management, IT operations and business program and portfolio management decision making. This local optimization leads to real world application of Agile software development being perceived as unsuccessful and increased probability of being thrown away for the comfort in the illusions of control of plan-driven approaches.
The promise of DevOps is to further improve our ability to make holistic optimizations from business to software delivery to operations and ultimately increase feedback into our business decision making processes. This promise involves the application of The Three Ways as described by Gene Kim: Flow, Feedback and Continuous Experimentation and Learning. Even for those that were able to take advantage of Agile software development we can not sit on our laurels. We must embrace continuous improvement in order to fend off the effects of “Software is Eating the World” as Marc Andreessen pronounced. DevOps provides a view on the culture, practices, tools and processes for how valuable software is delivered, operated and evolved to enable competitive advantage.

Enabling a Bimodal IT Framework for Advanced Analytics with Data VirtualizationDenodo
Watch: https://bit.ly/2FLc5I2
Being able to maintain a well managed and curated Data Warehouse, along with keeping up with all of the demands of a very sophisticated consumer group can be a challenge. The new user wants access to data, they want to experiment, fail fast and if they do find usable insights/algorithms they want them productionized. This puts pressure on an IT organization and pushes them closer to a Bimodal operation where the regular IT processes that are highly curated, well defined and managed contrast sharply with the demands of the more sophisticated user.
In the recently published TDWI Best Practices Report ,“Data Management for Advanced Analytics”, Philip Russom, DM for Advanced Analytics some of these newer requirements for the more sophisticated user are discussed in some length. How can IT support traditional demands around traditional BI and Reporting, whilst enabling the business with more demand for data and Advanced Analytics in mind?
Attend and learn:
- How data virtualization enables this Bi-Modal approach to Data Management.
- How data virtualization enables compelling use cases for data management and advanced analytics
- How we can achieve this important balance with process and technology.

UnifiedViews is a joint project currently maintained by Semantic Web Company (SWC) and Semantica.cz (Semantica.cz). It has been mainly developed by Charles University in Prague as a student project called ODCleanStore (version 2). It is based on the experience SWC obtained with the LOD Management Suite (LODMS) used in WP7 and ODCleansStore (version 1) developed by Charles University in Prague for the WP9a use case of the LOD2 FP7 project. In the next stack release of the LOD2 stack, UnifiedViews will replace LODMS as an ETL tool in the stack and the tool has already been adopted in other projects.
In the webinar we will give a brief overview of the UnifiedViews project (Helmut Nagy). The main part will be a presentation of the tool and it's capabilities (Tomas Knap)
In this Webinar Lorenz Bühmann presents the ontology repair and enrichment tool ORE and also the DL-Learner , a machine learning tool to solve supervised learnings tasks and support knowledge engineers in constructing knowledge. June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
LOD2 Plenary Vienna 2012: WP8: Linked Open Data for Enterprise Data Web

2. Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data
Luxembourg 1st Review Meeting Report Analysis
• Criticism:
• Use case specifications are not convincing
• RDF use and benefits in search are not clear.
• Concerns on the relevance of the use case application
• Unclear identification of business actors and incentives to use the
application
• Doubts on the volume of HR data that could be used
• Suggestions:
– Innovantage: http://www.innovantage.co.uk
LOD2 Event . 06.09.2010 . Page 2
2 http://lod2.eu
3. Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data
Response and action plan (1/5)
• Use case specifications are not convincing
• Exit (for the moment) the application on resumes:
– Few available data and so unable to showcase a convincing application
– Few RDF standards for managing resumes
– Optimisation of project resources to target a first release of a convincing application before
the 2nd review
• Refocus the use case on job vacancies:
– More available data (crawl of job boards or recruitment section of companies web sites)
– Identification of market opportunities: recruitment reports, dashboards and analysis for
business and administrations (Innovantage potential competitor)
– RDF support for representing job posts (JobPosting by http://schema.org)

3 http://lod2.eu
4. Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data
Response and action plan (2/5)
• RDF use and benefits in search are not clear
• Linked data, in RDF format, will help increasing the accuracy of the
application since it supports the process of data entities recognition:
identification and disambiguation of locations, hiring
organizations, industry domains, job titles …
• Search benefit: efficient indexing of key data entities. So retrieval and
query suggestions are more relevant.
• Consolidation and analytics will bring clear added value: aggregation of
numeric indicators will reflect the actual state of the indexed data

5. Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data
Response and action plan (3/5)
• Concerns on the relevance of the use case application
• The existence of two potential competitors in UK (Innovantage &
Myresourcer) is a good indicator of the need of the market to have
intelligence survey on jobs vacancies and skills.
LOD2 Event . 06.09.2010 . Page 5
5 http://lod2.eu
6. Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data
Response and action plan (4/5)
• Unclear identification of business actors and incentives to use the
application
• HR departments of businesses and administrations are the target end users.
• In a similar way as Innovantage and Myresourcer, WP8 use case application
will provide tools for releasing a job market analysis by domains and
vacancies/skills. Linked data will provide the leveraging mean for enriching
the “end user” experience by providing additional information
• The dashboard of market intelligence widgets is one of the incentives that
we target to make businesses use and get advantage from WP8 use case
application

6 http://lod2.eu
7. Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data
Response and action plan (5/5)
• Doubts on the volume of data that could be used
• Job vacancies are easy to get from the web. A crawl process of major
job boards, companies web sites is enough to provide large amount of
job postings
