Process:
How do you solve problems?
By
Danish Shaikh
Problem: Suppose you have been hired to re-design the student
lockers at a large public high school. What PROCESS would you use
to tackle this project? Describe the most important steps.
Proposed Solution
Step 1: Assess the number of students and the number of lockers
required
Step 2: Assess the Space Available
Step 3: Assess what typically is stored by a student in a
locker (to decide on the capacity of the locker).
Step 4: Conduct a survey on what a student would want to
store in a locker which he/she cannot currently do?
Step 5: Assess feasibility of the suggestions
Step 6: Make an inventory of locks, handles, etc. which can be
reused
Step 7: Check for more economical and ecofriendly materials to
construct the new lockers (like plastic/wood instead of the
metal).
Step 8: Then taking all of the above into consideration, I would
design lockers that would most efficiently utilise space and
would get constructed with minimum material after exploring
different design options & possible layouts
Step 9: Prototype and keep testing till the final design is
approved.
Step 10: Construct the lockers & sign-off
