3. Little League World Series Expanding to 20 Teams
No youth-baseball tournament is more prestigious than the Little League World Series (LLWS). As
of 2021, more teams will have the opportunity to compete for top honors. The LLWS announced in
August that it will be raising the number of participating teams from 16 to 20, while the Softball
World Series will expand from 10 to 12.
4. Little League World Series Expanding to 20 Teams
Another big change is to allow Cuba to send a team by 2022 when the country will earn direct
LLWS entry on a rotating basis with Puerto Rico and Panama. Each country will automatically
qualify two of every three years and have a chance to do so in the third year by advancing through
the Caribbean region.
5. Little League World Series Expanding to 20 Teams
More US teams will also be able to participate in the annual tournament with the creation of two
new regions: the Mountain Region, comprising Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and Montana, and the
Metro Region, which will contain New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
