WHAT IS LITTI CHOKHA
Litti Chokha is a traditional dish that has its origin from the state of Bihar in
India. Whole wheat dough balls are filled with sattu, a flour made from
roasted bengal gram and eaten with chokha, a spicy
potato-tomato-eggplant.
Litti Chokha together forms a really brilliant combo consisting of varied
flavours and textures. An original recipe for any chokha will have the main
vegetable (brinjal, potato or tomato) being roasted or boiled, then skinned
off (if needed).
Later mashed with other ingredients like onion, garlic, green chilies,
coriander leaves, salt, lemon juice and a generous quantity of mustard oil.
Ingredients:
For Litti:
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup Sattu (roasted gram flour)
1 tsp Ajwain seeds
1/2 tsp Carom seeds
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Water
For Chokha:
4-5 boiled potatoes
1 chopped onion
2 chopped green chillies
Salt to taste
Mustard oil
Instructions:
Step 1: In a mixing bowl, add whole wheat flour, Sattu, Ajwain seeds, Carom
seeds, Turmeric powder, and salt. Mix all the ingredients well.
Step 2: Add water gradually to make a firm dough. Knead the dough for a
few minutes until it becomes smooth.
Step 3: Divide the dough into small equal parts and make small balls.
Step 4: Preheat your oven at 180 degrees Celsius. Brush a little bit of
mustard oil on top of each ball and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes.
Step 5: Meanwhile, let’s prepare the Chokha. In a mixing bowl, add boiled
potatoes, chopped onion, chopped green chillies, salt, and a little bit of
mustard oil. Mash all the ingredients together until it becomes a paste.
Step 6: Once the Littis are baked, remove them from the oven and let them
cool down for a few minutes.
Step 7: Serve the Littis with the Chokha on the side. Enjoy your delicious
and easy-to-make Litti Chokha!
