Active voice
• The active voice is the"normal" voice. This isthe voice
thatwe use most ofthe time. You are probably already
familiarwith the active voice. Inthe activevoice,
the objectreceives the actionof the verb
Form of active voice
Example:
Families gather to eat delicious feasts of special food.
[Thing doing action] + [verb] + [thing receiving action]
Passive voice
• Thepassive voice is less usual. In the
passivevoice,the subject receivesthe action
of the verb.
Form of passive voice
Example:
Noodles are served uncutand they represent long life.
[Thing receiving action] + [be] + [past participle of verb] +
[by] + [thing doing action]
Ordering
Direction:
1. The students make a group of seven.
2. The teacher give students Chinese New Year’s cards.
3. The teacher opens the audiosound 2 times.
4. Each of students help together toorder the situation by
standing side by side.
5. While students are ordering cards, the teacher will open the
song.
6. Three groups finish this activity first, they will get the rewards.

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is a very special timefor Chinese
families.The NewYear begins at midnight on the day of
the new moon at the end of Januaryor beginningof
February.
The New Year celebrations last forfifteen days. They end
whenthe moon is fullwiththe Lantern Festival.
Everythingis done to make sure that the New Year willbe
a luckyone. Houses are completely cleanedso that the
old is swept away to make room for the new. All debts are
paidback. Everyonewears new clothes and red is the
luckiestcolor to wear. Everyone is kindand polite so that
the New Yearwillbe a happy one. Familiesgather
Whole fishrepresents togetherness. Chickenis
served for prosperity. Noodles areserved uncutandthey
represent long life.
Oranges and tangerines symbolize wealthand good
fortune. Special cakesare made, some withdates, some
withpeanuts, and others withsesame seeds. Noisy
firecrackers,dragon parades, and liondances are also part
of the celebrations. The lions anddragons are long
puppets withpeople underthem that make them move.
Everyone loves to watchthem parade and dance through
the streets!
