Assessment GRASPS
•When constructing
performance assessment
tasks, it helps to use the
acronym GRASPS:
GOAL
♦ Provides a statement of the
task.
♦ Establish the goal, problem,
challenge, or obstacle in the
task.
ROLE
♦ Define the role of the students
in the task.
♦ state the job of the students for
the task.
AUDIENCE
♦ Identify the target audience
within the context of the
scenario.
♦ Example audiences might
include a client or committee.
SITUATION
♦ Set the context of scenario.
♦ Explain the situation
PRODUCT
♦ Clarify what the students will
create and why they will create
it.
STANDARDS and
CRITERIA [indicators]
♦ Provide students with a clear
picture of success.
♦ Identify specific standards for
success.
♦ Issue rubrics for students or
develop them with the students.
Example: Math
GOAL:
♦ The goal (within the scenario) is to minimize costs for
shipping bulk quantities of M&M’s.
ROLE:
♦ You are an engineer in the packaging department of
the M&M’s candy company.
AUDIENCE:
♦ The target audience is non-engineer company executives.
SITUATION:
♦You need to convince penny pinching company officers that
your container design will provide cost – effective use of
the given materials, maximize shipping volume of bulk
quantities of M7M’s, and be safe to transport
Constructing a Performance Task Scenario Using GRASPS
Example: Math
PRODUCT PERFORMANCE AND PURPOSE:
♦You need to design a shipping container from given
materials for the safe and cost-effective shipping of the
M7M’s. Then you will prepare a written proposal in which
you include a diagram and show mathematically how your
design provides effective use of the given
and maximizes the shipping volume of the
container
materials
M&M’s.
STANDARDS and CRITERIA for SUCCESS:
♦Your container proposal should . . .
• Provide cost-effective use of the given materials.
• Maximize shipping volume of bulk quantities of M&M’s.
• Be safe to transport.
♦Your models must make the mathematical case
Constructing a Performance Task Scenario Using GRASPS
SAMPLE
As a financial manager one of your major roles is to find opportunities where you can put
your excess cash for wealth maximization. Given below are financial statements from a
specific company, looking into the net surplus of cash from the company’s FS, provide an
investment proposal that you can present to your boss to find out which investment will
yield better result after 2 years. Specifically, for this task you are expected to do the
following:
 gather primary or secondary investment related data from banks, cooperatives, stocks
offering, business engagement etc.
 prepare a proposed outcome of each investment through Annuities computation of each
investment opportunities.
prepare an annual financial statement (1. Statement of Financial Position, Income
Statement, and Cash Flow Statement) showing the changes on the company’s balances
based on the yields of a particular investments.
 present a risk assessment narrative from each investment presented.
You are required to present at least 2 investment proposals before the panel. Make a
PPT Slideshow for the presentation of this performance task. You will be evaluated using
the following standards: Accuracy of Data Collection and Interpretation, Accuracy of
Business Financial Data Formulation, Communication and Delivery of Presentations, and
Formulation of Recommendations.
